Just talking to my Moss distributor, and to Brittek, and they were saying that the place in england that manufactured the rear leaf springs is out of business, and they cannot get any springs for chrome bumper roadsters. Luckily Russ form here hadn't picked up the last set available, so i scammed them. Snooze you lose:) OK, i didn't really do that.
Question - Is it possible to take the 7 Leaf springs meant for the GT, and just remove one of the extra springs. When i stood them side by side, the GT ones were about an inch higher, but w/out that extra spring would they come back to roadster height?

Hey. I just realized something. There are no leafs available for my car, and there are no Leafs in the hockey playoffs. Co-incidence???
I have heard you can re-arch orgininals. Any truth to that?
I have GT springs on my 72 roadster.. Took the two small leafs off.. Sits about 1/2 to 3/4 inch high but that's fine with me.. It's been right at a year so it's not going to drop any any time soon..
Maybe you could add a leaf to the old springs.. Rearching is said not to hold up very long and cost dang near as much as a new set...
I have a new set of roadster rear springs I'll sell for $1000 :) given they are so rare now..

just God's way, Ken. He's just not a Toronto fan!
Ading a new leaf to the old springs was going to cost almost as much a a new spring, because the one that is broken is the top one, and the spring guy would have to make the ends to hold the bushings etc.
I had the same problem about 12 years ago.there were no springs available at the time for an 80'B. Ended up using GT springs with the lowering block kit. Sat good until I rebuilt the front end with lowered springs, then it had what we called in the 60's the California rake. Joe

"Leaf" him alone, Mac!
are we saying that OE springs are no longer being made but lowering springs and performance springs are still available or should I be trying to scrounge up a set before I leave for the states?

for a thousand bucks he can have the set off my car which are new :) I'd even include shipping and handling :)
i got a set just a couple of weeks ago fron Octagon Motor Group Limited
of bc,they where $111.00 each.
So long as they're not broken, springs can absolutely be re-arched, de-arched and otherwise manipulated to most any specs you might have. Most good-sized cities should have a place that does it. Only thing is most of the work they do will be with heavy trucks and stuff, so your MG springs will look like toys to them.
I had the springs on my 77 re-arched and was very, very happy with them.
I've read that there's a company in the UK making modern composite uni-leaf rear springs for the MGB. Much lighter(less unsprung weight) and less (no) internal friction. Probably better than the old cart-springs anyway.
I have installed the GT leaf springs onto my '64 roadster. Did it several years ago. I got tired of replacing sagging springs. No problem for normal city /hwy driving but may give oversteer in competition driving. I'll take $750.00 for my old springs :)
When I put the "reverse-loop" springs on my V8, I took the old RB springs off and put them on my '74. Actually dropped the height quite nicely. Might be worth checking out RB springs as well as the GT ones.
If you take the 10" leaf out of a GT you have a roadster spring. Leave the shortest one in. That is the only difference. I did the opposite, and added the 10" leaf to roadster springs to make GT spring set.
See. This is why this is the best forum out there. All these people willing to sell me their springs. Sacrificing their own vehicles ride and for only a few hundred dollars above the retail price. Man, you guys are tops.
I managed to find a pair from another local distributor. I normally refuse to go to them since their service sucks. But, under the circumstances i made an exception.
Install hopefully tomorrow.

It's a brotherhood, Ken. You'd do the same for us.
Good luck on the installation - post back with how it goes.
Couldn't the oversteer from a GT spring set in the rear be corrected by adding a 5/8 or 11/16 sway bar in the front. Basically adding the GT springs reduce rear body roll, so to compensate and balance the car, you need to reduce front body roll via the thicker sway bar. I know it isn't quite that simple, but with the few options out there, the combinations won't be exact, so getting close is about the best you could do... but then again there are a lot of other variable to stiffness and steering tendencies.

Are they down on the "Peninsula" Ken?
:)
I just talked to Moss about this last week, and they told me the springs will be available end of April.
