I have owned a couple of MG Magnettes and enoyed them, but thought I'd put in a word for another allied car that has a lot going for it.

I have also owned a couple of Riley 1.5s.

These cars are 4 door cars that are unibody and only weight about the same as an MGB. The use the early spec MGA 1500 engine and a widened A series rear axle and modified A series Spridget style front suspension.

They are easily updatable to a B series rear axle and disc brakes on the front, and as they are already twin SU cars, a nicely tuned (read hotted up) MGB engine is a natural for them. You then end up wth a sleeper that is as quick as an MGB but carries 4 people. Very similar in concept to the Magnette, in fact, but weighing almost 500 pounds less - what's not to like?

Unibody also means rust, of course, so that is one down side, and there weren't a whole lot exported to North America, bu they can be a very nice car to drive. Thought I'd put this out there in case anyone was looking for an MG related sleper.

Not real pretty though. We had the same car sold here in Australia as the Morris Elite and Austin Lancer. They were quite popular in their day. I agree that they were relatively light-weight. A mate of mine had one to MGA engine spec and it was rather quick for it's day.

A good mate of mine had the similar car Morris Major back in the 70's, ran it all over the place.
I seem to remember towards the end of him having it he had to replace the diff. and only had one from a Morris Minor.
Was a bolt in swap, but was geared so low it could just about climb a tree.
He got rid of it not long after that, but as far as I can remember, it still had that diff in it when it was traded in.
I think he sometimes reads this, I know he reads my journal, so if I'm wrong, he'll most likely correct me. :)

With disc brakes, a tuned MGB engine and a 5 speed, these things are little Q ships. They even handle reasonably well.

The appearace is pretty much on par with the Magnette, and if you search you can find the Wolseley version with the grill badge that lights up at night......:-)

They were indeed produced on the Morris Minor floorpan, and were quite successful in racing in their day.

And lest I forget, consider a Riley 1.5 with a 3.4 V6 conversion applied to it......(insert diabolical laugh)

A friend of mine has a Riley Elf. Cool car.

We had a Wolseley when I was a kid, two-tone green with tan leather and wood interior, it was a nice car.
