Hello

I'm back with a basic question regarding the new (for me) 77 MGB I've been messing around with for a few weeks. I got home from a drive the other day and after the car sat for a while in the garage I noticed a large pool of radiator fluid on the floor beneath the car. I found the fluid to be leaking out of the heater valve. Well, we replaced the heater valve and gasket today. The problem is, this leak was leaking for I'm not sure how long, right onto the distributor which sits directly beneath it. Now the car won't start. I've been trying to dry the distributor out the best I can, even used a hairdryer on it and it still won't start.

Is there a chance that the distributor is ruined as a result of the leaking coolant? Is there some part inside the distributor that can be changed out instead? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Justin

I would check and make sure the HV leads aren't shorting. WOuld the condensor also be vulnerable ?

I would sell the car as quickly as possible for as little as possible. This is a lost cause. You should stick with cycling. :)

AntiFreeze is some pretty 'sticky' stuff. I don't think it ever 'dries' out.
Try spraying some WD-40 in the dizzy. Then give it go.

if the car has the original electronic distributor....you may have drowned it.

Well, I'm not even sure to tell if it has an electronic distributor, I'm cross-checking the manuals right now. I'll try the wd-40 though and also try to see if I'm getting spark...hadn't thought of that until tonight. Thanks.

No points or condenser in this electronic ignition system. check inside the dizzy car for moisture and dry as needed. You might hace to pull the dizzy and drain it of any and all fluid....dry it out and plug it back in in the same approzimate plae and give it a spin.

NO, its NOT ruined.

Did you pop off the cap itself? There may be fluid inside it.

But, MOST LIKELY, while you were working on the heater valve, I bet you knocked off the wire to the dizzy itself, the little one on the side.

Check that!
