This Sturgeon was caught at TWO CREEKS CONSERVATION AREA,
Wheatley, ON (at Lake Erie) 11/19/2007
It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and measured out at 11'1'. It was 56" around the girth;
took over 6 and a half hours, and 4 dozen beers, for the 4 guys taking turns at the reeling it in.
Any Sturgeon OVER five feet has to be released unharmed and cannot be removed from the water.
They are brood/breeding stock and probably older than most of us.

Now that's fishing!

Peter, Where did you find that picture? My freinds and I fish Lake Erie every weekend thru summer and have caught a few of these prehistoric fish once every couple of seasons, 20 to 30 inches. Always have heard the rumors of divers have spotted fish that were larger than men exsist. Thats an awesome fish, wonder if the experts guessed at how old the fish was. Anyway thanks for that picture very cool.

Dave, if it was female, do you have to kill it to get the caviar.

The only catch & release I practice is with women at the bar :D Beyond that if you catch it or kill it you better be prepared to eat it. My 4 year old wanted to shoot a bird in the yard one day with his BB gun I told him if he shot it he would have it for supper that night. He was taken back and asked why? I am all in favor of hunting and fishng, and have hunted & fished my whole life but if you stop its life you better do it for a reason...
