Now I have my OD working Im like a kid with a new toy. Do you recommend engaging the cluch when you switch in and out of OD? Switch in in seems smooth but there is quite a jolt flipping it off. Maybe a symptom of my tranny mounts being rather aged. Penny for your thoughts. B.

Just vary the throttle as you would changing any other gear. The only difference is that you do not use the clutch. Give it a little gas as you downshift (disengage OD), let up a bit as you upshift (engage OD).

I don't use the clutch...just switch it on and off at will, It is a neat feature that brings a grin every time. When I forget to turn it off I'm reminded when I come up through the gears and hit third..makes me feel like a fool, but I still grin.

After having my car for 25 years during a rebuld this past winter put in a rebuilt OD. I know how that grin feels. I found an amber light that will go in the extra hole in the console and will wire it into the switch circuit so I don't have that dumb feeling about leaving the OD switched in.

Welcome to the grins Barrie

I had a light - I still occasionally had that dumb feeling though. :S

But that lighted switch failed and with help from folks here I actually found the correct switch, rewired the OD
and Voila !

I have my grin back. ;)

I dip the clutch to smooth the shift shock in both directions, but I have a fair bit of free play in the diff. Chrismas job will be to fit new spacers and thrust washers in the diff - I am looking forward to seeing whether that make the OD shift more smoothly.
