OMG, what a waste of time, it took me 4 hours to get them to f**k up a invoice template and not teach me how to create invoice and post a payment, now if I needed a recipe for curry, I was talking to the right people.

I would ask, "ok, how do I post a payment", they put me on hold for 5 minutes while they "researched" it, then come back and tell me they would need to switch me to expert in that field, a freaking expert, how the hell could be posting a payment that difficult of a question for a Quick Books tech advisor, then the whole process would start over. The last person even asked me when I told them I had enough of this craziness and wanted to end the tech session, that mind you I am paying for, "Mr. Waldrop how did I do today, did I resolve your issues", I told them " No, you freaking suck", "thank you Mr Waldrop for using Quick books", my response, "yeah thank you too dumbass"

I'm going to cancel my quick book tech help, and use an real english speaking American to come by and tutor me, I bet it will take all of 1 hour.

I've got no problem dealing with technical advice people not from America, if they have a clue, and we can alteast understand each other, but this BS was nonsense.

I taught myself using the help menu. Took more than an hour though. 8-)

Funny thing is my ex took the computer with her so now I don't have it anymore.:( I use Quicken for the bank account which automatically keeps tabs on spending and recieving. Invoices I either hand write or do in the word program...same for estimates. But Quickbooks is great once you get on to it cause it combines everything.

Hap,

There are some Youtube videos that are pretty good for Quickbooks. Is this a new install or have you been using it for a while?

Intuit (Quickbooks) does really suck at support. Thye have outsourced all of the help.

The hardest part is setting up your chart of accounts. When you install the program, there are some suggested accounts already picked for you
when you start setting up your company.

It is usually good if your accountant can assist you with the accounts you need.

Edit to add there are sometimes Quickbooks "advisors" at accounting firms in certain areas. They are usually a little expensive though.
The advisors are partners with Quickbooks, and usually speak English as they are local firms and accounts.

Just Google Quickbooks advisors or go to the Quickbooks web page to look for advisors near you.

Paul, QB is new to me, I used to use Peachtree. I recently got a guy to get me new computer together, tranfer some files form the old computer, put Norton on it, and update the accounting software, I wanted to be able to email a invoice to my customers and put my company logo on the invoice, which QB can do. So far what seems to be a a big hassle is posting a payment, on Peachtree, there was place to click at the bottom of the invoice widnow that opened up an overlaying smaller window, let me post how the customer paid, and then click ok, with QB it seem to be like a 3 or 4 step process of opening and closing different windows.

The only good news I can report about this is, I called technical support and cancelled my month of paid technical support, and they ask me why, of course you can imagine my answer to them, something along the lines of, totally useless, if you don't cancel you get automaticly billed each month until you do. Well they cancelled and refunded me the first month's payment, so atleast this didn't cost me anything.

I think, I'll just spend most of Sunday in the office, when I don't have to answer the phone or emails, and spend some uniterupted time on it, using the YT videos, and the help section and see if I can fiquire it out. I think software designers must be like automotive engineers, they actaully never work on this stuff themselves

Hap, the saying comes from the pet food industry and goes along the lines of "We don't eat our own dog food"

Look on the bright side. When the company decided to shun American jobs and outsource its technical department, at least the CEO got a nice bonu$

Steve, I thought all this outsourcing was about remaining competitive? Are you saying this is all about greed?

a well deserved bonus.. taking out overhead like labor and tapping into the cheaper labor pools should be rewarded. The corporations goal is returns to the shareholder.

Posting a payment in Quickbooks is labeled "Receive Payments" and can be accessed from the text tools at the top or from the "Home Page"
of Quickbooks. I don't think there is any way to post a payment directly from the invoice.

I have helped customer set up Peachtree too, and I think Quickbooks is much easier. It will take a little while to
find all of the tools inside the software.

Correction: If you right click at the top of the invoice there is a "Receive Payment" selection on the menu.

What I have found with computers is they are great when they are working properly. The problem is when you need to seek human help with them things often run amuck.

I took mine to Staples once and was happy with the results. Young fella there really knew his stuff and I listened to his reccomendations. I felt the price was fair also. About a year later it was acting up again and I figured it needed cleaned up. They made out it was this big process and they would need 200 bucks to look at it. The fella I delt with before was no where in sight.

Luckily I found a friend of a friend that is retired and computers is his hobby. Not so much a guy like you need for programs Hap but he can make em run and clean up the files. Only problem is he wants to stay all evening cause he has nothing else to do. 8-) But at least he's free.;)

My favorite is when you call tech support and someone with an obvious East Indian accent says, "Welcome to XXXXX Tech Support, my name is . . . Bob." Yeah, right.

"Thanks, Bob. My name is Larry but you can call me Hindivishnuramsaran."

Yeah, I get the yellow pages people a couple times a week. There is always a long pause after I say hello. Then with the accent " Hello, is this Automotive Underwood...Mr Jim?" I just hang up.

Intuit has a website where you can set up your own web site. The package was not free so I decided to look at the simplest level to see how usefull it was. Before I could even try it some Idiot was calling me trying to upsell me. They are right there when they want your money. Pissed me off so bad that I did not even try ther product.

Getting there !!!! X( I got the invoices set up, and going, got my company logo on them and all got customers files, item files, invoices start clicking off and payment on said invoices noted as paid. The whole month of Jan. has been on paper, waitng for to get this up and going. I like the feature I can email someone a invoice when I'm doing thrid party shipping, like VTO wheels or engine rebuild parts, beats crap out of mailing invoices. Once the invoices are caught up, I can move on to posting purchases, then I've got it covered. There a few little glitches, but I'm getting there, and without the help of "Bob from Calcutta" :D

Oh well, so are the pleasures of being a small business man, well atleast the boss will never lay me off, even though sometimes I wish he would :D

Hap, a good friend of mine also has a bodyshop. We used to work together at a GM dealer way back. One of his favorite sayings is..."If you can fix cars, you can fix anything" :)-D We are always comparing notes on home repairs ect.

Glad you figured it out. I had no doubt you would.

Hap,

Maybe you can go over and train Hadji!....:D

You should be fine if you already got that far.
