You've probably all seen this Shell ad that uses a succession of Ferrari F1 cars but I get such a kick out of watching the change in style and sound I thought I'd post it again in case anyone missed this classic.

Thanks to Tom on the MG vintage racers group for reminding me of this clip.

With each generation you can hear the motor is turning more RPM's, and sounds just a little more crisp.

I'm kinda fond of the early ones too though. Something about a 7000 RPM bellow....

I don't really like the newer one that turn crazy high RPM's, you can't really hear what the motor is doing, it's more like a high pitched shreek. The oldest two sounded the best to me.

Way cool video. Looks like some of the driving styles on the Chicaoland expressways. I too liked the older cars, actually all of them except the last one. The different camera angles of the mechanicals was great. Wonder if Shell could be persuaded to re-do that commercial using the MGs of days gone by? (yeah right)

Ah, the sound of machinery old and new. Like the sound of a woman's laughter, sheer joy to my ears.

Thanks for bring this add out. I never saw it. Way cool. 12 cylinders would be fun, for sure.

Thanks for posting. Wonderful. By the way, in case you're interested, the scene of the elevated road-bridge off the costal cliff face is in Australia, about 50 miles south of Sydney, just north of Wollongong.

Love those early sounds--was at the Glen vintage races a few years ago and an early 60s GTO flew down main st at high revs (for those days) made the ground shake --lovely!

That has to be the best commercial ever made for gearheads. I wonder how much it cost to make it?!
