I got a call from a neighbor today. He has a small, British made Hovercraft in his garage. Its having engine troubles--a small bore 4 banger Reliant engine. I believe Reliant makes those funky Robin 3 wheelers we often see at British car shows. Anyway, I'm looking for tune-up data--valve lash, point gap, timing info, compression numbers and any other general data. Sorry, don't know the year or model of the engine--looks like an 850, if I had to guess.
Also, it has a small SU carb on it with a connection to the water pump/cooling system. What is that?
Thanks--if this info is anywhere, I know it rests with this crowd!

Choke?
Brad,
I figured it might be something like a water choke, but there's a manual choke just like we might find on an HS4--in fact, the carb looks like an HS4 only smaller.

John, that was a Renault engine (French), not a Reliant :D

ooops!
This group can probably help you: http://www.uk-classic-cars.com/click.php?url=http://groups.yahoo.com/group/foxandkitten&id=374&catn=Reliant
And let me tell you that a Robin is one of the funkiest cars you can ride in, when you hit a bump it only bumps at one end of the car, that is just plain wrong!
A friend of mine had one, he was a biker and just had a bike license, in the UK you could drive a three wheeler on a bike license so a lot of Hells Angels etc also used to own Robins.
