I am trying to clean up the 'puter in order to upgrade soon and I am deleting a bunch of movie files that my Son has put on, of skatebording and other stuff he doesn't need. There is one movie file that is showing 4938kb in size that won't delete. It is a mpeg.
When I right click I don't even get the option to delete or rename or the ability to move the file.
Anyone have a clue how I can get rid of this? Don't know if there are more like this, but this is the first one I have come across.
Thanks
Paul

if a filename has illegal characters in it, as often happens when it is transfered from an older mac, you can pay heck renaming it.
what is the full filename?
suppose, for an instant, the file was named abc/dfg.mg3 or abc:dfg.mp3.
neither of these can be operated upon by windows or dos.
However, you can use a wildcard within dos
open a dos window and go to where the files are.
then at the prompt type "ren abc*.* abcdfg.*" (without the quotes).
then abc/dfg.mpf should now be named abcdfg.mp3 and you can move delete whatever.
that help?
Are there multiple user accounts on this computer? If you aren't logged in as an administrator then you may not be able to delete files from another account.
