I personally enjoy looking at engine bays and checking stuff out, coming across new ideas or whatever. So this thread is to show off a little of your hard work and why your knuckles were all busted up.
Post any motor in an MG. Stock or not, pretty or ugly. Doesn't matter, let's see your sexy engine bay!!
I'll have to resize my picture and update it because it was completely rewired. So a few things are re-routed and cleaned up.

Adam:
That is a sweet looking engine compartment. I can't imagine my 79 B ever looking like that one. Great job.
Wayne
Wow Adam I admire and appreciate your skills and work! >:D< See ya at Dillard I hope?
FWIW here's mine, (stock) before and after 7 months of messin' about with ideas and little upgrades.
My valve cover and pedal box treatment generates lotsa controversy on here LOL but gets ooh's and aah's at local shows , so ... :I3:
Hi Ben, more than happy to share anything you wanna know about buddy :) It went little bits at a time as I got ideas.
Hey Marco, is your engine bay black? What was the original color of your car?

Hi Lou, unfortunately the bay was BRUSH painted black :( :( PLT was originally Flame Red, and they did such a thorough job in the respray, when the lump was out for clutch (car was stripped), I'll NEVER understand why the front 1/2 of the bay got done blue and not the rest. I never talked to the PO (I'd reach thru the phone and strangle him) and the Ebay broker had no clue.
I have no lump- pulling resources so I did what I could to brighten things up in that black hole.
Prety interesting Marco, at least they sprayed in front of the radiator, so you can't tell from outside the car. Wait a minute, i just thought of something...you live in Miami, it's 3:30 and you're posting on MGE...uh, isn't there a beach around with scantily clothed women looking for a guy with a classic car? Up here in the great white north, i'm just getting caught up with MGE real quick before bolting to a friends house to watch the Pat's/giants Superbowl. I don't have a beach to pass the time.:X
Thanks guys! I hope to make it to Dillard, but not sure yet. Sweet looking engine bays so far, keep em' coming!!
Oh, and if your going to post on this thread then POST A PICTURE! I know there's a whole lot of wonderful and interesting work done to there B's on this site, so let's see them.
Btw, Ralph that supercharger looks really sexy. Have you dyno'd your setup? What numbers do you run with that and any other upgrades?
I used a special invisible engine paint. Makes for a very clean look.
Nothing really to be proud of other than the '77s engine runs. The first is the '77 and the second is the '72. Oh and that is a plate of moth balls in the '72
This was taken at a show about 3 years ago. Still looks the same - only not quiet as clean right now.
Here's how it was when I bought my 67. There is an interesting power brake booster, fan, and horns. The second picture is after the engine compartment has been sprayed silver. The car should have been painted yesterday and the painter will start the sanding, polishing, and waxing process then send it back to have it all put back together.
Tannyo: I'm not sure which is more interesting, the power brake setup or the electric fan setup or the horn setup.
That was one very creative former owner.
I just had to join this post because I am so excited about my EMPTY engine bay! Someday, soon, I hope to have the follow up that will look half as good as some of what you all have posted.

At 3:30 PM it was raining w/ 40 MPH gusts; so much for nekkid ladies on beaches LOL. I went did a brake fluid flush n bleed before the game. Not quite the same tho, is it :P
Very happy with this turnout so far! Giants won!! Haha to all the Pats fans.
Anyhow, what great engine bay pictures! Sme of us here still have a lot of work to accomplish but thank you for posting! Seriously, this thread is for everyone. If you don't post a picture of your bay then your no fun.
A couple pics of mine, I couldnt' get the before pics to attach.
Ok, common people's. Let's keep this going for a long time.
Keith where did you have those Braided Hoses made up. They look great!
Work in progress. Started the engine rebuild yesterday. Am hoping to get it in before the end of the month...

OK Adam can I post more pls pls? Ok cool thanks!
1st pic - care and feeding of my HIF's lol
Last pic - July 2011, carbs etc. off, Racor Marine fuel filter/water separator and shutoff valve on
As clean as I need it to be. Some of you guys have works of art.
Car was restored about six years ago.Not much has changed.
Partially done on my '66, just need minor things to pull engine and tranny to finish---like TIME and MONEY!:)-D

Very very nice people, just love seeing all these beautiful works of art. Some of these before and after pictures are amazing! I'll have to scan my before picture I have, mine was pretty bad too.
Curious as to why most of the top contributors havn't posted any pictures. Maybe I'm just saying that too soon, hopefully.
Here's a shot of mine just after engine re-install sometime back in summer 2010, it's had 34,600 miles since then, not so clean....
This is my '72. I removed most the emission control equipment years ago. I still use the canister with all the associated tubing.
There's nothing like a supercharger to dress up the engine bay!

Exactly! Couldn't agree more. I have always messed with turbos, but never got a chance with s chargers. Makes it even more irresistible....
Just finished restoring my 1960's Cal Custom valve covers. Now searching for a nice vintage air cleaner. Still need to get different spark plug wires, put the old MG starter solenoid on the fender, make a cover out of the original Lucas voltage regulator to cover those two little jumper boxes on the fender and need to finish cleaning up the wiring harness.

Skye, can we sticky this thread? :D I've been wondering why we have a sticky thread for videos & not pictures...

I'm changing the title to official!
The blue 1971 roadster with nearly stock engine bay and the black stage 6, a bit unique but sheer fun to drive...
Ralph
Keith where did you have those Braided Hoses made up. They look great!
"
Hey Dave,
Thanks for the compliment, they are actually braided covers that you slip on the hoses. I got them in a kit that I got on ebay. If you search "braided hose covers" on ebay Motors, I'm sure they will come up. Also the hose ends were in a kit, you can get them at most speed shops.
I'm glad I took this pic when it was still clean! Still looks good but it's hard to keep it clean when you drive it like I do.

Braided hoses:
Don't get slip on covers! Those are for teenagers driving a Kia or something like that.
Purchase the correct size diameter and wrap electrical tape around the hose where you need to cut it. Use a hack saw to cut through the tape and hose. It won't bind or fray the wires. Then you slip on the end piece that you wish to use. It's really easy to do and lots of companies sell the hoses as a kit and all they did was cut a few hoses for you.
Example: I paid $150 for 3x hoses that supplied water and oil for my turbo. They did come with the attachment pieces. They were all cut to length and simply bolted right in. However I could have made the kit myself for about $60. Now that I know that, I purchase SS braided hoses in 10'-20' length
Hope that helps, and no offense to the guys running fake SS hoses. I just thought those were for teenagers. :D
Not as pretty as some, but very functional and good enough for me.
Here ya go fellas, about 180 hp at 7500 rpm, and every trick you could ever throw at one to make it go faster.
Here's a video of my budget KA24E retro fit.....

Some really nice engine bays there...mine should only look nearly so good! Nice!
The engine is all MGB but the rest of the car is not.

What is the reliability and HP like. Looks pretty mean!

I have only owned tha car about 6 months and since putting on a new Weber and having it tuned it has been reliable. The previous owner, who did the bulk of the work, had run the car for some track days and some around town driving. I guess I'll have report back after more time and miles to give you a more accurate assessment. The car is being dynoed next week. What's your guess for HP? Pictures of the car can be found here:

There's a guy who comes to the Mitty vintage races every year, he has a Lotus 11 clone, that use MGB powertrain, I vaugely remember the guy having a long last name, Polish I think, starting with a "K", supposely he sells kit for this set up, does that ring a bell, if so I see that cat everyyear at the Mitty with one of those cars. I also worked with several guy who have built the Westfield based Lotus 11 clones and those use MG A series powertain.
Great looking engine compartments. I noticed a lot of these cars have dual prop rods keeping the hood up nice and straight. Is that a special MGB kit or just 2 prop rods that can be bought locally?
Thanks
Lawrence
I purchased mine from moss motors. Also got the chrome sleeves that go onto the props.
I think you could get some local ones as long as the bracket works out.
Come on, do I have to! Gee wiz! I hate keeping my bay clean ---- not true! >:D<
GOD, so many beautiful photos. Here is mine ... great thread!
John
I would if I knew how to compress a photo using something internal on W7 Home Premium on an HP Pavilion dv6 notebook but I'm challenged!

No offense taken!! However at 67 years old when I drive my MGB, I feel like a teenager, and I really think that's all that matters!!!
Keith, given that your engine bay presents so well and is in my humble opinion one of the best looking on this thread, I think you did great. I actually tried doing that with the braided covers and just got fed up with my poor results, so went back to stockish stuff until something better (for me at least) comes along.
Again, Nice work!
Dave

Thanks Dave!!
Working in my dark, dingy engine compartment this weekend was a little depressing after seeing so many good looking ones on this thread. I definitely need to spiff mine up.
That's another reason for this thread. It gives people a little extra drive sometimes to do some work on there bay. A lot of beautiful looking, great working cars have a real ugly engine bay. So let's see your pride after your done. Don't let this thread go to sleep now ladies and gentlemen!
Dan,
Your GT is just stunning!!!!! Exactly what I hope to have some day....
Damm It Dan,
Now I feel like going and cutting my throat.
I was at a car show a few weeks back and we were comparing engine bays. Comments on mine were "why don't you clean it ?"
So went home and gave it a really good tub. Looks much better !
Update with the engine and gearbox in this weekend. Nearly there!
