The 4 holes near "A" are where you drilled out the old spot welds that held the old one in. It is spot or plug welded depending on the type of welder you have. Originally it was spot welded along its length.

Thank you.

I guess I was confused since the new piece of sill length that "rides" the frame does not kick up to meet it.....guess I thought I was missing something like perhaps a third piece in the mix....

There may be a piece between the holes you drilled and the 4 welds you can see in my picture. A Z bent piece? Any one with a Body off? Picture from underneath? Do you see the 4 and 4 spot welds?

Mine had a second piece but I didn't know if that was original or not.

My restoration photos show the bracket. The service parts book does not show it. I seem to remember mine (a late '56 build) the bracket may have been an "L" shaped, welded behind the lip of the rear piece. It may have been "Z" shaped. It was over 12 years ago. My scanned photo doesn't show that good a detail. But you can see it is only as wide as the flat sill piece, not the width of the lip on the rear section.

That is a very useful shot though thank you very much.

Don't forget that there's a rubber seal that goes under "B" in your photo.. so it doesn't ride directly on the frame.
