I have one missing on my drivers side hub. I am also having front end shakes. The front end was aligned, brakes turned, new kingpins, rostyle wheels and tires rebalanced on the car, good shocks. Coils might be a little weak but I dont think that would cause any of my problems. Could a missing oil seal collar be causing my problems? What does it do?

Collin,
That collar missing would cause the inner bearing to have nothing to seat against, it can't seat against the curved surface.

Also, what wheels are you using? Warped rostyles do occur. Some say due to the softness of the metal or placing on some pnumatic tire changers. Also, the rostyles are not hub centric, they are bolt pattern centric so a bolt adapter must be used to balance.

I just put on these wheels because I had wire wheels before and it did the same thing. Also there is new a frame bushings on it. You can barey hold on the the steering wheel at 70mph. But it goes in spurts it dont do it all of the time.

Could it cause vibration since it is missing?

Collin - Having the collar missing, isn't helping. I'm no expert, but it's not doing the bearing any good to not have a solid flat surface to sit against. I don't have the geometry in my head, but I'm a little surprised you were able to get the endfloat on the bearing set correctly w/o the collar installed. I guess there must be enough thread on the spindle and slot depth in the castle nut to get it assembled. The grease seal isn't seating against anything so eventually water and dirt are going to get into the bearing.

Regardless of if it's causing the vibration, you do need to install a collar.

Sounds good. Be sure to post back. I'll be interested to hear if this solves your vibration problem.

It is fixed! I put the back tires on the front and fixed the porblem. I must have a tire out of round. Thanks for all of your input.

Are you still running without the oil seal collar? If so I think you will eventually damage the bearing or the spindle.

I am only putting on a few miles to test the tires. The oil seal will be in Tuesday.
