Not quite 25 years ago on a Saturday night a local paint salesman named Larry Green was drinking in a bar in Paducah, KY about 70 miles from here. Some guy told him about an old airplane in a nearby barn and Larry kept after him until he took him out and showed it to him. Larry called John Ellis and Told him, "It 2 O'clock in the morning you drunk SOB. Leave me alone, tell me about it tomorrow.", and hung up. Larry, knowing that John went to church every Sunday was at John's at 7:00AM beating on the door and wouldn't shut up until John was in his car and on the way to Kentucky. An interested group was quickly assembled, bought the airplane, and spent the next 5 years restoring it. It was more than halfway done when I bought into the group.
Pictures are here. Scroll down each one and read the captions, they tell some of the restoration story.

Very interesting story JDW! So, how did it end up in the barn in the first place?

The owner got too old to work on it any more. He had started a recover job but was't able to finish it and couldn't let go of the airplane. His son wasn't interested in airplanes at all so it sat here until trees grew up around the barn and blocked it in. It wa imposible to get it out the door it went in so we cut some trees and the wall out of the opposite end of the barn and pulled it out.
