Hello,

My highschool senior is going to be having a parade in which he and a young lady from his school are homecoming king and queen. Now for the question. They are wanting to ride on the "rim" if you will..........the metal in front of the trunk lid and behind the normal seating area while I drive in a parade. I really don't know what to think about this. Has anyone an opinion or experience with doing this?? Will this damage the B?? He is 120 pound and she is 150 or so. I sure don't want to risk damage but would like to allow this if it is no harm done.

Thanks,

Greg

or is he 150 and she is 120lbs? I'm not an expert on this particular question, but my gut feeling is yes, it should be okay. Have them sit gently and not bounce around. Maybe two small cushions for them to sit on. The rear bulkhead certainly is strong enough, the trunkopening edge is shaped for strength, and the inner edge of the rear area has that extra metal edge that bolts on. Also the slight arch of the rear upper panel should work to avoid denting. The main question is will it dent, I don't think so. It certainly won't collapse. Have them each sit towards the sides instead of tight in the center.

Our club participates in many similar parades. One in particular (the State football grand final) gives us a couple of local notables to sit on the back as we tour around the ground in front of the crowd.

in the many years of doing this I have never heard any complaints of "damage" by any of the participants.

Give them some cushions to sit on (or a blanket" if you like. It is more comfortable for them and lessens any chance of them scratching your paintwork.

The only "incident" I had was leaving the football ground up a concrete ramp/driveway where the two passengers were waving both hands to the crowd and not holding on. The weber on the car I was driving (not mine this time) had a bit of a "lump" as I accelerated up the ramp and I almost threw the passengers off!

They both survived and it was great fun as usual.

Go for it!

Greg,

I had three college cheerleaders sitting back there and did not experience any damage whatsoever so you should be in good shape.

Cheers,

Rob

Agree, you won't have any issues. Just don't let them sit on the boot lid! As stated above, a cushion or thick blanket is a good idea to protect the paint and somewhat distribute the weight. All that, and an up to date insurance policy! ;)

Thank you everyone for your input. We just got back home from the parade and it was great! I learned how to drop her in and out of gear to keep her moving at parade speed. I will post a photo as soon as possible.
