Following on from the "Which is better, Moss or Victoria British? " thread and if it doesn’t contravene any forum rules, how about the parts suppliers on this forum identify themselves publicly and let us know the advantages of ordering through a distributor rather than directly from the major suppliers. It would be better to support a local, who then supports the major. I have heard they can offer discounts the major suppliers don’t offer.
In Australia I typically buy from Heritage MG in Sydney and MG City Abingdon Motors in Brisbane

If you look under the Directory heading there is a good list of the suppliers and distributors. I think most of the distributors and re-sellers on the forum are pretty well mentioned there or in prior posts, a little bit of searching should turn them all up.

I love dealing with Bruce Smith at "Sportsparts". He has great knowledge of MG's of all types (he races a very hot Magnette), and is very happy to give advice over the phone. It's very rare that he won't have in stock a part I'm after if it's available at all, and he often has access to unique sources. (e.g. Stainless steel knock-offs). Bruce does at times seem a little dearer than others (not always) but the great knowledge/advice and the fact that I receive my parts the same day (by courier for bulky or urgent items), or the next day by post makes his service second to none.

Count me in for all of the engine and hydraulic parts. I have a pipeline to some of the manufacturers :-)

Would that be a hydraulic pipeline, Basil? :bouncing:

Well there you go. I never knew about the "Directory" heading.
I really have learnt something today.

Thanks for that.

Just make sure you're getting a full warranty if ordering through a reseller. I have heard, but don't know any details, that resellers can't always offer the full manufacturer's warranty. Maybe someone else can elaborate on this and tell how much truth there is to that.

I just purchased $500 worth of stuff for my project from Ken at BSCR - a Moss distributor. He is an owner and started his business to service other owners like himself when he wasn't happy with the service he was getting. I was very impressed with his service (I had lots of questions) and he gave me a bigger discount than anyone else. I shopped around pretty hard since the electrical harness was north of $300 - 5% makes a difference! Moss direct doesn't give deals to individuals unless it's an advertised sale - and even then the distributor gets the same offset.

If you are in the market for parts, I would encourage you to give Ken a try - bscr@bscr.com.

I have no stake in this - just passing along the benefit of my recent experience.
