I could use the $150.00 but way too far away.

That looks like a rust-free creampuff by Quebec standards.

Why don't you jack it up to see if it's got an overdrive.

It's located over 2 hrs away and I just haven't had time.. If I get a chance I will go back up in a couple of weeks and reap some parts and jack it up... Or I might drill a 1" or 2" hole in the top of the tunnel look in....
Where would be the best place to drill the hole...

Well, this is a picture of an LH O/D 'box. But unless you're equipped to drill a 2" hole in steel, I'd just use a 2 ton jack and some stands.

You should be able to grope around and feel for the solenoid (just forward of the gear lever) lying on your back on the tarp from the $1 Store (you all do carry one all the time, right?). No need to jack the car up high enough to crawl underneath, just enough to reach under with one arm. That way, if the worst happens, it's just an arm and not a life lost. But do use stands or at least throw a spare tire under the rocker before venturing under.

Gary, I don't want it because, like you, I'm too lazy to pull it out. But if you go back for some parts, I'll buy the rear bumpers off of you...

Are the Black Lable and blue lable laycock trans different or is that an early type in the pic?

That's an early 'box. Dipstick circled in green. The different O/D units are physically different, externally. You'll have to go by the colour of the colour of the labels. If they're missing, notice that the black one has 3 mounting holes, the blue label 4.

Hey Gary,

Didn't you post these about a month ago that you had seen them, but hadn't been able to contact the owner?

What is the rest of the story?

What are you doing with the other car?

Now, the rest of the story..
I left a note for the owner and received a call about a week later. He said he indeed wanted to sell the beauties and we struck a deal.. I picked up the maroon one (on the right in the pict) last Sunday. It has the overdrive for sure (visual).
I always wondered what would happen if you had a flat on a car while towing with a dolly. Would the car veer out of control and pull you into a ditch or worse.. Well I found out on the 90 mile drive back.. Nothing happens.. I stopped for gas about half way back home and found the RR tire was in shreds. I thought back and remember it pulled a little harder about 15 miles back, otherwise there was no adverse effect...
I sacrificed and sold the carbs to Jimmy the carb man. The rest is awaiting trans removal and then what dosen't fall off will be sold and a really good price..

It's nice when you come out with OD's. I picked up two recently and both had OD's. Both Black but none for my 67. only a 73 & 74
