I have successfully completed the installation of the Flamethrower Distributor and 3ohm coil I purchased from VB. I have light timed the engine to 13 degrees BTDC @ 1500 rpm. And installed a new 12 volt wire direct from the fuse block to the coil. I must say I am well pleased with the starting and running. It runs like a scalded cat up to 55mph then kinda fades. I also have a Weber DGV 2 barrel carb conversion installed. I do not feel the secondary carb jet kick in like I used to but it is working. I have not installed new plugs or wires yet. Also the distributor cap seems a little loose and the side clamps are engaged correctly. Any Ideas.

You just installed an aftermarket "performance" distributor and set the timing using factory specs. Set the timing at 14 BTDC at idle and advance or retard a little from there as needed. You want your engine to be on the threshold of pinging when under load, so advance it until you hit that point, up to 16 BTDC.

To tighten up the cap, bend out the little steel tab on the vacuum advance that holds the cap in position. You may want to just order a new cap now to have as a spare - the Pertronix caps are very, very low quality. If it has a black rotor, you'll need to order a new one of those too.

Thanks Jeff,
The rotor is blue.......any suggestions on a good rotorcap

Good - you got the updated rotor after the recall then. I think any cap you order these days will come from the same manufacturer, with the exception of those poorly made caps provided special to Pertronix. I'm hoping to get some heavy duty caps in stock later this summer, but you can do a search for the Lucas DDB199. That's the cap you want for a 45D!

Jeff,

Thanks you are a wise man indeed. Just got back from a spin after I re adjusted the timing.....all I can say is SLICK......My top end and little kick is back.

Your DGV will require about 17 degrees timing. Kathy's LE really likes the 17 and runs very nice.
