Pertronix recommends running 12V without the ballast. Is bypassing the resistor as easy as removing the white wire from the circuit? I am currently running at 7.5V with the ignition on. I went ahead an got the Pertronix 3 ohm coil to go along but don't wont to fry all of my new toys.

Still working on the profile. Just got set up. 1978 MGB. Weber DGV. No other major modifications that I know of except that the dizzy has points in it and it was my impression that it should not on the 78. One of the reasons for going Pertronix.
bypass the wire ballast. put jumper across it from the white wire on the fuse block to the positive side of the new coil. then you can remove the white light green wire to the wire ballast. easure than removing wire ballast.
If you look at the Pertronix directions for the Ignitor I (is that what you have?) you will see that if you have a ballast resistor you do not need to by-pass it you just need to make sure the red wire sees 12V and not 6V, meaning 1) you can keep your 1.5 ohm coil and 2) you need to make a connection between the red wire and a 12 V ignition on source. I talked to the tech support team Friday evening about this same issue and they confirmed this, however, since you are worried about it I would advise that you call them yourself and confirm this. I plan making the connection at the fuse box where the wire that goes into the loom to make the ballast resistor comes off.
Several people have posted problems when not using a 3 ohm coil. I'd setup with +12VDC just as Pertronix directs using the 3 ohm coil.
Does't sound too bad. I'll give it a try in the daylight and repost. The switch is to the flamethrower distributor since the other was giving some trouble and seemed piecemealed. Since I already bought the 3 ohm coil to match, might ass well keep it
Worked perfect. Found the white wire bundled up in electrical tape. Not hooked to anything. Ran it straight to the coil and left the white/green wires disconnected. Greatly improved power in 2,3,4. First still a little sluggish. Going to let it cool down some and set the advance up some.
