Just spotted a big pheasant in my backyard! He just keeps pacing back and forth. I live in the middle of town and have a small yard so I can't figure out why he's there in the first place.
Quick question.........If I get too close, will he charge? Don't want to get beaked on Easter. Don't know much about wildlife either.
Pheasant anyone?

So I've heard Mike.
Looking around for a glass container big enough to initiate the capture proceedings.
I hit one with a semi-trailer truck near Decatur, IL one time. He was a beautiful thing, stretched out there about six feet long when he flew up from the side of the road. I got on the brakes but still clipped him with the left front fender. I hated that but the pavement is mine and the grass is for wildlife and it's just their tough luck if we reach the same point at the same time.
The bird will run. That's what makes them tricky hunting. They fly just a bit, then hit the undergrowth running.
dem tasty birds
I am not sure, but a couple of people with old thick blankets or bedspreads and a small club or bat might be just the trick. Perhaps best under the cover of early evening before he goes to roast, I mean roost. Bon Appitite!

If they think you can't see them, they'll hide their heads in the brush (or a bush?) and stand still. Otherwise they'll run.
I was on a group pheasant hunt a few years ago and we were walking a corn field kicking them up (2 dogs with as well), shooting them, and picking them up as we went along if the dog's were preoccupied. I grabbed one by the tail feathers to pick it up - it was on the edge of the field with its head in the brush. Apparently it wasn't one of the ones we had shot. I didn't have a very good grip, but it threw one heck of a fight! Scared the crap out of me, and everyone else in the group laughed so hard they almost wet themselves.
The moral of the story Will - go ahead and grab it - I dare you! :)
