Got the TR3 that I bought last weekend home today- you all asked for pics so here they are.
This is a '56 with overdrive. Basically it is pretty original, obviously not restored. It has been "customized" a little but still looks pretty original. OK for me because I just want to drive it anyway. It runs great and has no rust. Needs a good cleaning and I will be removing the racing stripe. All in all, I think I got an OK deal at $8K.
The prince already visited me on my first drive on the way home - I hit a bump on a real busy street here and the engine died. This street had 3 lanes each direction, no shoulder. Luckily my wife was behind me in the toyota and pushed me a half mile to the nearest pulloff. Turned out that the bump in the road knocked off the cable from the coil. There's my first repair job, getting a tighter cable!
Anyway, this car brings back so many great memories of the 60's for me - what an experience! This is the start of a great relationship!

Nice catch...This one is hot :hot:
Wish if I can get my hands on a similar one someday
Congarts :)

That's a beauty and a steal.
What's the ride like compared to a B? What part of CA are you in?
That is a nice smallmouth TR3. If it were a longdoor TR3, it would be worth a lot more, but the price you paid (upon first glance) seems very good.
FWIW, I think the stripe looks fine.
Brings back memories for me too. Had one briefly that I got from a friend. He and a buddy had rebuilt the engine but I did not realise until too late that they did not have a torque wrench so just tightened the big end bolts as tight as they could and both guys were big strong boys!
Gary,
I am in Walnut Creek in the SF Bay area.
The ride of this car is definitely a step backward from the B, the creature comforts are minimal, you feel every pebble in the road and you are literally inches from the road.
I was wrong about the racing stripe, I did not look closely enough at it at at first - only the two 1/4" accent stripes are tape, the wide stripe is actually painted on, so I guess I won't be removing it unless you guys know some way to do that.
The stripe works.
Car looks great- I love the small mouth TR3s. I actually think they are probably worth the same or more when compared to the 3As and Bs. But it's not about eh value its about the driving. We have a '60 3A which we are restoring. It is nearing completion, interior goes in next weekend, so I hope to be able to post pics of the finished product soon.
Enjoy the car and take lots of trips.
Very cool! I like it! Enjoy and have fun. I wish I had room for another LBC!
Terrific looking sled you have there Mr. Tim! They ARE really neat cars aren't they? And that one looks to be just about perfect for use as a regular driver. If it was much better you might not want to take it out "among 'em". :-) Jack
Wow! Nice red hot TR! I like the stripe. Doesn't look like a "boy racer" put it there like so many stripes do. The black goes nicely with the red and gives it a kind of cool "I don't need to be concours" look.
