I'm about to get a rear kit for the new springs. I'm wondering if upgrading from rubber to poly is worth it in the back. I don't know as there doesn't seem to be as much flex as the front end. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

Russ

Poly will last longer, and will give the suspension a little more tightness. I did my front and rear suspension with that, after getting rid of the old rotten rubber bushings.

For the extra cost, and the need not to do it again soon as with rubber, why not?

I rebuilt my rear end with all rubber bits 3 or 4 years ago. I rebuilt it again this past winter with poly stuff. The rubber bits, though not that old, were already semi-worn out. The car is much more solid feeling in corners with the poly bushings and pads. Overall, I like the poly much better than the rubber. It is the only thing I would run on my B.

Which ever way you go Russ ( I have polys and like them) If the existing bushings are woren out do it.You will not believe the differnce!

ABSOLUTELY.

The poly are far superior--they last longer, and you get that FARFERGNEUGEN feel that the Germans always talk about.

Farfergneugen, those were funny commericals, weren't they?

I wonder if that is really a word, or just something VW made up? Anybody speak German?

Russ, they will also help a whole bunch with the rear end sort of sliding back and forth. If you're running larger tires, the rear won't flex back and forth as much, so it will help with rubbing on the inner fender wall somewhat.

and they just don't wear out. Make sure you use the supplied grease, and I always try and do the finally tigthening with some weight on the suspension, that way you don't twist the bush at all - although this probably is not as important at the rear than it is at the front suspension, just because of the make up of the rear suspension.

If you have ANY kind of issue with the rear tires rubbin g the fender, by all means get the poly bushings! They'll help prevent the lateral rear axle travel!

Farvergneugan is a completely made up word - like Evian or Haagen Dasz. Now that's good marketing!

Évian-les-Bains is the name of the town in France where the water is bottled.

What James says (he's my hero)! What I wish is that we could get some decent rubber seals for the lower kingpins. Mine are less than a year old, have never been on the road, and are already cracking and leaking grease! Damn Chinese made stuff!!! :(

Rubber bushings do this:

Get the poly and be done with it.

Shawn:

If you mean the useless 'dust covers', then, yes, I agree. They fall apart just sitting there. I have the same situation - haven't even driven my car after redoing the front suspension, and some of them need to be replaced already.
