Anybody installed the power steering kit from MGOC? If so, is it worth the expenditure? Is it still an "mg" drive?

I did not know they had this. IMO, it takes away from the "experience". That was one of the things I did not like about my Jaguar. I just don't like the lack of "feel" on cars with power steering systems. I have never driven an MG with it though.

There is suposed to be a kit that reduces the amount of caster in the frt end. That would be a much simpler way to make the steering lighter. Perhaps someone will chime in with the source.

Doesn't need it and don't want it.

You would very quickly lose track of where your wheels are in relation to your steering wheel. The car is already very light.

The company that makes the caster kits is Frontline:

http://www.mgcars.org.uk/frontline/

The thing is they don't advertise the parts on their web site. All the contact info is there though

On a car I had back in the '70's I had some caster wedges that were made by Huffaker and they really lightened up the steering. If you're using lower profile tires these are just about a must have. You will need to readjust toe settings if you these.

castor reducing blocks will reduce "lift" when turning thus makign it turn easier but allow more wander on the freeway as the steering wheel will no longer self-center.

With fat (195) tires and 14" steering wheel I have no trouble turnign the thing. Sure as heck find better use for the $2500 this kit is supposed to cost.

Agree, if you want to spent $2,500, buy the supercharger kit! That will lighten the steering!

I can see that as an option for someone with some physical challenges, but I don't see the point otherwise. My Miata has power steering, and it's about the same weight as the B, and both have 185 section tires. I imagine that system puts out very little assist. Both cars feel about the same to me except when sitting still or moving VERY slowly, where the PS had an obvious advantage - not that it's really needed...

I always figured the reason they offered it in the UK as an option is precisely because of parallel parking situations in an urban environment. Trust me, parallel parking in a tight spot is no picnic w/o power steering, and I have to do it regularly. You don't have to be a wimp to find it quite a chore.

I would worry about the impact on driving speeds though, because I love the steering feel of the B. If there was a way to have it work only below about 5 mph! Overall it's worht the parking hassles to me to have the strong road feel.
