I need to leave my key in the ON position while I check wiring etc for my OD. How long can I leave it on before my points burn up, or will they burn up, or what else would anyone suggest... I'm a one man team.....
thanks
Sam

They will burn. Disconnect one of the primary leads off the ignition coil while you are fiddling with the OD.
Bring that solenoid over, I can't find my spare :S No idea what box it's in.. Did I leave it over at your place? LOL

Like Trevor says. Just disconnect the small primary wires from either the coil + or - terminals while you leave the key on, and be sure to tape over the metal ends of the wires if you disconnect them from the coil +. If you disconnect the wire(s) from the coil -, no need to tape anything...

Thanks all! Did some testing and the original stock relay was replaced with an original Lucas from a local Jensen/Healey parts house and that fixed the problem. While cleaning up the old Lucas relay I noticed a 9-65 date stamp on it. I guess a 46 year lifespan is pretty good for a relay.
