My 1973 Pioneer stereo died...does anyone have any ideas where to find a knob type replacement?? I have a few leads on eBay, but am concerned about buying an old unguaranteed unit. I have searched the net but did not find any leads. Anyone have a source? Checked trader.

Try stereo installation businesses. Naomi got one for making a nominal donation to a charity a business was supporting.

Try a google search, there are speciality shops that convert units from 50s cars that look stock but are loaded with current componets. Also try cruchfield.com

www.crutchfield.com is the url

But I recommend that you call them on the toll-free number since an old MGB may not be in their on-line applications. They are up in Charlottesville, Virginia.

I have the same issue. My radio/cassette deck is probably a late 1970s model. The tape player doesn't work, and I'd like to have a unit that is a radio and a CD player, but not one that looks like it came off a starship. Let us know what you come up with up.

This is the link to one of those shops that John speaks of. I'm going this route with my British Leyland AM/FM radio. They can even add an input jack so you can plug in a CD, MP3, etc., and maintain the stock look of the old radio. This type of setup is also a big theft deterreant as well. Not many people are likely to want to steal and old BL radio but would be very tempted by a more modern radio/CD player in a car that provides it very little protection.

Why worry about having another "knob" style radio? I removed the original BL AM radio from my 71 GT and found that when installed by BL they had used adapter plates to install a "knob" radio into an almost perfect "DIN" hole.
I say almost perfect... as I did need to remove approx 1/64th in on one side to accomodate a modern AM/FM/CD Blaupunkt pull-out. So purchase a new stereo that you like and it should pretty much be a "drop-in" replacement.

I sent my original radio to a place in FLA. that I'd read about here. Bought a Sirius radio plug and play unit and I'm very happy. Its all the variety you can stand and I don't have c.d.s sliding all over the car. I use the rca inputs in the rebuilt radio for clear reception and the portable c.d. input in my truck stereo. Also bought one of Sirius's boom boxes and a cigarette lighter power plug to use in my mail truck while carring my route. So happy I bought a lifetime subscription. Camera is on the fritz or I'd post a picture.
