Dos anyone have any experience with using just one ramp? I'm trying to get to my speedometer pinion gear and I lifted the car up earlier today using my floor jack and the side lift point. This didn't look right as I thought it might just tip the reset of the way over. My idea is to drive up on one ramp and then jack the back and support with a stand so I can get all the way under there to have a nice look see. I use the ramps for most under the car work but never drove up on just one. Think it's ok to proceed?

Ive done it in the past, but with cars bigger than a B

That'll put a hell of a twist on things. Better to jack the right side up at the jacking point and use jack stands to hold it there. Even using the ramps under the body as safety stops would be better than nothing.

Go to the store and buy a duplicate floor jack.

Buy another floor jack! Heck why don't I just go buy a lift! :) LOL.. Thanks for the tip JDW, I didn't even think of it twisting. I'll just jack the whole thing up and use my 6ton stands. I can get the thing about 18+ inches off the ground with these big dogs..

A rusty lift out in the driveway and some overstuffed upholstery on the front porch. Those are Southern traditions Sam! LOL

for safety, don't drive up on ramps.

jack the car up and put the ramp under the tire.

ramps move, also you can't really tell when you are there...especially if one has shifted.

I hate ramps. Scary.

I agree. Ramps are scary for sure. First, they can move while you are trying to get the tires caught on the lip then you have to rev up the engine, slip the clutch and stop before you go over the edge. If you are not quick, you will not be pleased with yourself since our LBCs will get damaged due to the ground clearance once you drive over the edge! OUCH!!!

Cheers,

Rob

P.S. Anyone want a pair of ramps only used once? hahaha

You all are scaring me.. I have a pretty nice set of ramps. I can't recall the name of them right now, but they are heavy duty plastic, non-skid rubber type boots on the bottom and they have never shifted, moved, tilted etc. on me. I always have someone watching when I drive up on them, and they never need to stop me as I can tell when I hit the flat top. I tried doing what suggested Mac but I had to get the car so far up in the air to get the ramps underneath it wasn't worth it. I'll post a couple of pics if anyone would like to see them.
I prefer working on the caar while it's sitting on it's own suspension. I just feel safer.

Since you already have a floor jack I'd suggest getting four good jack stands. Certainly with the car up on four stands you will be able to get excellent access to where you want to work.

Ramps? I don't care for them, but if you like yours and are always careful, they should be safe just like any other tool when used properly.

Oh....and I agree about not jacking up just one corner of the car. Not good form, and possibly bad for the suspension and so forth.
