I've noticed that there are lots of fans of Monty Python here. So am I.
Several years ago I started watching the films of Luis Bunuel, and have really enjoyed them. Recently I read that the gang from Monty Python were greatly influenced by him, and I thought "Yea, right". But then I rewatched a few Bunuel films and got the connection big time! Bunuel is considered to be the father of cinematic surrealism, and we all know about the surrealism in Monty Python. They also both have scathing social, religious, and political satire, it's just that Bunuel's films are more polished, professional, and subtle.
The #1 of his I'd recommend is "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie", but "The Milky Way", "Phantom of Liberty" or several of his other mid 60s on films would be good examples also.

If you get the chance try to get a tape of an old BBC radio show called the Goon Show which predates Monti Python by quite a while.
Peter Sellers was on the Goon show, wasn't he? I've heard a lot about the show, but haven't stumbled into any videos of it yet.

LOL! Well, IMO Monty Python would be somewhere between Benny Hill and Bunuel, with Hill and Bunuel at opposite ends...not that I haven't watched and enjoyed Benny Hill!

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark that you're a Bob Dylan fan (I'm not!). Anyway, here's a URL to a story that ran in yesterday's NYT magazine. I'll bet you'll enjoy reading this:

Thanks Tom. I read a bit of it...that's one long article! Sounds interesting actually...I'll wait for the movie LOL!
Had a few friends who worshipped the ground Dylan walked on, so was exposed to his music quite a bit. Still not a huge Dylan fan, but he has grown on me over the last 35 years....
