Reading earlier thread got me to thinking of cars I've owned and why, oh why, did I ever sell them? Loved almost every car I've owned
(wasn't too warm and fuzzy with an AMC wagon), but I sincerely regret selling 1955 Chevy convertible with power everything for $150;
a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere convertible with pushbutton tranny for $100 dollars and I still shed a tear for my 1964 Pontiac GTO convertible with factory Hurst 4-speed on the floor I sold for $500. Care to share what you let slip away?

sure wish I had thought about it some more when I got rid of that 68 Firebird

Selling my 1974 Midget (which I bought in the UK), then selling it a few years later. I have over-compensated by getting - and keeping - two Midgets and B since then. Still think about the first one tho'. Sigh. I need a moment...

In 1980 I sold a 69 One owner Camaro Rally Sport.... In about 1996 sold a 68 Camaro coupe..

Two regrets:

1. When the hubby and I had to leave our 1956 MGA at his Dad's house due to a military transfer his Dad sold the car for $25.00 before we got back to get it. Yep you read right - $25.00

2. Another military assignment and had to sell our 1965 Corvette ( in 1979 ) --- $4000.00 for the Corvette and factory hardtop all in mint condition.

Ain't gonna happen no more !! :)

63 TR4 with full SAH tuning kit, swapped for a 63 MG1100 in which I drove to California.

Some went with no regrets, some with fond memories and some with a sigh of relief, but the ones that come to mind that I regret are a 1966 Sunbeam Apline, 68 Firebird Sprint (OHC Six/4 barrel), 64 Chev Impala SS and a 1963 MGB (!!!!). A few bikes too: 1962 BSA Goldstar, 1968 Royal Enfield 750 Interceptor, 1972 Norton 850 Interstate, 1965 Ducati 450 Sebring. Really want to find an old Brit bike again to restore and relive my youth. :)

I still have dreams that I still own my first car, which was a '55 Chevy 2 door Post, two tone Robin's Egg Blue/White. I don't really regret selling it, because my '63 MGB replaced it.

What I should regret selling is my '56 Nomad, but I hated driving it, so no regrets.

The one I enjoyed the most was a '55 Chevy PU, with short narrow box, a 327, with a 456 rear end. I only owned it one Summer, then sold it to buy the Nomad.

My first car a 1956 Ford 2 door Fairlane with a 3 Speed on the column and a Police interceptor engine that came from the factory that way. A 1956 T-Bird, A 1966 T-Bird and a 1964 MGB that was bought in England with every speed mod you could get on it. There were several others also.

'54 Harley hog; '49 Cadillac convertible with red leather upholstery, fart blowers underneath the seats, and hydralic windows; 58 Land Rover, '64 T-bird.

The only two that I really regret selling are a TR8, and a semi-tube-frame rotary bugeye project car.

1954 Studebaker Champion coupe - sold for $175 in 1966 or so...

1972 MG Midget - sold sometime around 1975

1995 Honda Civic - sold to a coworker 6 years ago with 135000 miles on it for $3500. Her son is still driving it with well over 300,000

My first car a 1955 Hudson (Nash) Metropolitan convertible. In 1990 for $350. It was in need of a COMPLETE + rust re-restoration. Sold it because of an expensive divorce. The following week I landed a great paying job....didn't have to sell it. Too late.

Wish my dad didn't sell the Messerschmitt that was in the barn when I was growing up.

1965 Ford Ranchero wagon. 289V8. Just too many toys at the time.

So many cars....so little time.

I sold a 1968 280sl 10 years ago. Cool car, but not exactly a sports car. I stopped checked there current value, I should have held out!

I regret selling my 1967 MGB to buy a 1969 Camaro RS.
I regret selling the 1969 Camaro RS to buy a 1976 Chevy Silverado POS pick-up
I don't regret selling the POS Chevy pick-up, but I severely regret buying the foulest car I ever owned, the 1980 Audi 5000ST, a true testament to incompetent German engineering and planned obsolescence. I had the Audi towed to the junk yard in 1986, where I donated that car to science to help advance the study of technological disasters.

A '59 Chevy Bisquene (sp) with the cat eye taillights, straight six. three speed on the column. Lent it to a bubby who snapped the rear axle. Probably burning out. I told him if he had it towed he could have it! I had bought it from his brother for $75.00. I was pretty broke back then... My dad had to use it one day to get to work because his brand new Caprice was in the shop. I'll never forget the man sitting in the car with the fedora hat trying to shift into reverse.

First car at age 16, an Arnolt MG convertible, which pooched a head and my dad (who had title to it and was fronting the bill) sold it for $250 with me screaming an yelling NO! Today I could fix it, then I didn't know how. Jag 3.8s sedan. It was too much $$ to keep up on a student's non-income, but boy was it a beauty.

I sold my 59 MGA in 1968 when I got married because she thought it was too small..Bought a 63 Gran prix with a 421 and tri power...Talk about extremes.. Took awhile but finally got back a lbc. Still married and very comfy in my garage...lol

I'm turned kind if different about getting rid of cars. I simply love them until I just seem to get enough of them and let them go with no regrets. My all time favorite fun car was my hopped up and customized 1976 Honda Civic 1200 Beastie. I ran the hell out of her and loved her for about 14 years, sold her for $800.00 and didn't even feel bad when I saw her a year later sitting in a water hole in a junk yard.

A 1974 MGB I had bought new.
1973 BGT-A great car!
A 1969 Mini Cooper with a 1380cc hot hot hot engine.
1974 Land Rover 88
1958 ZB Magnette restored except for upholstery and paint
1989 Skoda 135SI Rally Car (bought new for $6800. and had literally no problems in 5 years
including several winter rallies)
And the worst...MGA Twin-Cam, restored rolling chassis and drivetrain along with a rust-free Cali body shell
sold for around $6000. in the late 80's

My first NEW car off the showroom floor at age 20. A 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner, 383ci, 335hp, 4-speed Hurst "beer tapper" shifter. Drove it less than a year and was drafted into the army and Vietnam. Returned home to a paid off car with less than 20,000 miles that got 9 mpg, drove it to the Toyota dealership and traded it for a Cilica....NOOOOOOOO
Can I have a "do-over"?

Dec 03, 2009 17:32:10

First car was a 1959 100-6 Austin Healy (the 2 seater with the long back deck). Drove it off and on (you can guess about the "off" periods) during college. Sold it for $50 in 1971 while I was in the Navy. Serious case of dumb ass!

I like your thought on this John. I had a '83 Datsun 200SX I bought with 79,000 miles. Sold it with 350,000 miles on it for $600 bucks. No regrets, even after the next owner trashed it.
If anyone knows of one, 5 speed, hatchback.....a fantastic car.

Same as mine was, after riding in it, buddies had to make me open the hood, they couldn't believe it was a 6 cyl. Very peppy car.

There have been many, but the ones I regret the most:

1. 1970 Hemi Super Bee. 426, 4 speed in Panther Pink with white top and interior. Bought for $1100 in 73, sold for $1700 in 73. - Condition was superb. Couldn't afford the insurance, and my loan required full coverage---.

2. 66 Pontiac GTO Coupe (2 dr sedan body) - gold with black top and interior. 389 originally, but swapped out with a 421 from a 2+2. Bought for $285 in 1973 - traded even up for 1969 Chrysler 300 Convertible in 1974. Condition - Very good, but rode hard and put away wet.............

3. 69 Chrysler 300 convertible - red with black interior and top. 440 TNT, auto. Traded for in 1974 - sold reluctantly for $1500 in 1978 (pregnant wife, no money and the car needed transmission work). Condition: Excellent, but high miles, needed transmission work and a rear window in the top (that's another good story).

4. 60 Plymouth Savoy, 2 dr sedan. light blue and white with blue interior, 318. Got it from my dad in 1969 (before I could even drive), who got it from my aunt, who had it from new. Sold to a guy for $35 plus a 1962 chevy Bel Air, in 1971 after the block cracked.

5. 62 Chrysler 300 Sport- White with red interior - 383 with push-button torqueflite. Condition was excellent. Traded a pink and white 1959 Plymouth Suburban Hardtop wagon even up for it. Sold in 1972 for about 350.00 as I recall..

6. 65 Mercury Marauder Coupe - 390 auto. Ivy Mist Green and black with silver and black interior. Bought in 1978 for $500 - Sold in 1980 for 250, after the engine went south (the car stayed where it was).

Many, Many more 61 Plymouth Fury coupe, 89 Mustang 5.0 convertible, 55 Pontiac 2 dr Wagon, 73 Triumph Dolomite Sprint....... There haven't been too many cars I haven't regretec getting rid of in one way or another...

Traded my 64 Dodge 440 HTC in on a new Pinto in 1972.... :X

I've never regretted selling any car. There has always been a reason which justified selling them, but once they were gone, that was it. Some of them would be worth quite a bit of cash now but that's the way things go.

Bought new '67 Vette Coupe, Sold and bought '68 Chevelle SS396, sold when got married
Bought 66 Mustang GT Convertible, sold when went to Viet Nam

75 Alfa, Alfetta GT - Sold because I was tired of working on it

67 TR4A - sold to buy a '68 vette that I hated

We can't have do-overs, but darn, sure wish that I could just go back to one of those fine days, just once

Haven't regretted any yet but in the spring she goes up for sale.

A '72 TR6 I sold it to buy a landcruiser so I could go 4 wheeling with a friend then a year later HE sold his LC and gas had doubled so I traded it for a Toyota pickup. Didn't get another sportscar for 12 years!!

I've done some pretty dumb ones.
1962 Jaguar mk2 3.8 bought for $500 sold for $650 thought I made a killing.
1969 AMC AMX 390 go-pack sold for a Maverick (because it got better gas milage)
1963 Austin Healy 3000 BJ7 sold for $13000 (in 1999) because I thought the market for 3000's was going down.
oh well....

A '55 Ford that I drove and courted in two years in college.
A '68 Austin Healy that I bought for $200 and figured it was too little after the kids came along.
A '27 Model T
A ' 29 Model A Wife told me I should keep it.
Any 1980's Chevy station wagon that we raised the family in.
Almost sold my MG last year but it wouldn't start. Many dollars and much time later I'm glad it wouldn't.

Only one regret, and it wasn't me. My Grandpa sold his '56 Chevy when I was 15. Only time I ever cussed him out. In my head of course.

The other 2 also weren't my fault:
1. 62 Plymouth Valiant, I had more fun in that POS, rusted out Valiant. I tried my damnedest to kill it, but it took a woman running a red light and hitting me broadside at about 35 mph, and I still drove it for about 3 months after that.
2. 89 Escort GT, met the same fate. Only the old biddy didn't realize I was stopped at a red light and tried to drive through me. That was another really fun car to drive, once one got use to the torque steer.

Sure hope the B and the SRT don't meet similar ends. Seems like every really fun car I've owned has been totaled by a women running a red light.

1969 skylark GS...I don't want to think about it, it still hurts.

And

1965 Impala convertible...young and dumb!
