Does the windshield wiper switch on a '73 feed current to the motor, or to a relay within the motor?
I'm considering inserting relays into the 1st speed and 2nd speed circuits so that the amperage necessary to operate the motor does not pass through the switch.
Thanks,
Chuck Edwards

It is a good idea, but not as easy as you might think - the switching for the wiper motor is fairly complex to make the "park" feature work properly! If you have Rick Astley's book, take a look at the switching for the wiper circuit(s).
I put a relay inline to my wiper motor with no problems, still parks when turned off, maybe I got lucky and did it right. I did it at the same time I put relays on my headlights (1 for low beam, 1 for high) and also on the blower motor. They all work better, brighter, faster....
I put relays on my accelerator cable. Didn't work out so well. Must've gotten the wrong relay....
Did I mention I'm loaded up on Percocet right now?
I have never yet had the need to add a relay to my wiper motor as is fast enough in low speed as it is. As Eric says, the wiring for the wipers is a bit more complex than something like the heater fan or rear window defogger, and I have simply opted to not mess with it more than I already have by adding an electronic wiper delay unit. That seemed complicated enough for me.
