I am looking at having to repair the area where the splash panel mounts to at the top. I also have some rusting issues in what I believe is called the trumpet section of the wheel well. This is going to be repaired soon so the rust does not spread, but from the looks of it, the fender needs to come off to get in there with a welder.

From looking at the car, and from reading the manuals, it appears as though the dash and windshield have to come off the car in order to remove the fender. Is there any way around this? I will not be doing the welding work, so any prep i can do for the welder would be best and I'd prefer to do something like that over let someone else tear the car apart.

The engine is out of the car at this time and the hood is gone, so those obstacles are out of the way was well. The engine's out while I contemplate which way to go for the replacement head and it was gong to need a new clutch, so why not pull it. Although at this point it's looking like I may have been caught by since I'm doing this, I might as well do that, and while I'm at it these need work too, and...

Dan..

I was just going to patch up a couple spots on the rockers on my GT when I bought it...

Then I started taking stuff off and replacing it: :)

Once you get going.... Prepare Thyself.

I just removed my two front fenders, and did not remove the dash. It's a little tricky getting the upper inner fender attachment bolts off, but it can be done with patience and dexterity.

I'll agree with Robert. The dash doesn't need to come off. A little tricky is correct and a lot of patience required. Anything to do with work in the dash area requires lots of patience.

...and being able to work lying on your back in a very uncomfortable position, swatting flies. Seriously, it's not that bad.

Yes, the joys of working on a B.

B..seein ya

Yes, the window must come off to remove the front fenders.

Well, I guess not having to take the dash out is a good thing, but now any hints on disconnecting the windshield and frame? Most likely I'll be tackling this task this weekend, so that gives me some time to search for tips, but anyone want to save me the hassle.

Ahh, yes, the "might-as-wells"......
I think that if you plan on replacing the windshield-to-body seal while the windshield is off, I'd go ahead and pull the dash out too. The new seal is a bear to get crushed down enough to get the windshield frame bolts back in, a lot of folks here use clamps from the top of the frame to the cowl to do it. Plus, you'll have an easier line of sight to the bolt holes.
In addition, of course, the dash will be MUCH easier to refurbish while it's out of the car, and you might as well...........

Would I be able to just use the current windshield to body seal,as long as it stays in one piece that is? I'm already looking at having to do the in the future, so if it can go till then, I'll just leave it as is, but I'm sure it's not an expensive piece so might as well(three dangerous words). But I have a nice scratch in the windshield where it needs replaced (eventually) from where the cheap dpo was too cheap to replace a wiper and drove around with no rubber on one. And i thought lawyers made the big bucks. lol

the windshield to body seal is a real bear and a half to replace. be careful and re-use if possible. you don't want to get too bogged down on your task messing with the windshield and dash. do not forget to remove the stay rod on the inside.

Being as it is a GT, the windshield seal will not be a real problem, as its gasket/seal goes in as most regular cars of the period, unlike that of the roadster.

I thought this was a roadster, not a GT.

Just to clear up the confusion that seems to have occurred lately, this is for a roadster, not sure where the idea that it was a GT came from.

The photo of the stripped cockpit in the second post above. Sorry to derail your discussion by not reading carefully.

Sorry to confuse.... I was just showing what can happen when you take the first item off.

"I was just showing what can happen when you take the first item off."

Paul, when was the last time you were at one of those clubs where women do that?
