OK ,How do you get it out? By removing the hood? I see no way to lift it straight up and out. No clearence between the hood and that big black air exchanger.

Not by straight up. I lift mine up tilt over at a angle , barely clears between hood and heater. Have never spilt acid. But may be good idea to put plastic over that are.

That's the way I get mine out too. It's easier if you can get some straps around both ends of the battery to use for handles.

Yes, isn't it a brilliant place to put a battery? And even harder to get at in a Bugeye Sprite.

If the four bolts that hold it to the body arent rusted tight, you can remove the heater box first, or at least loosen it so it can tilt forward enough to remove the battery.
Easiest way though, (and less chance of spilling acid) is for you and a friend to unbolt and lift off the hood.
