Folks,
I am speaking at a conference last week of March in Edinburgh.
Since this is my first time in .uk, I thought it would be awesome to drive from London to Edinburgh, since I love driving, and it looks like an awesome windy drive.
Anyone know where I can rent an MGB in the UK to drive it from London to Scotland? Is this even possible? Would I be better off buying one? (They might be stupidly cheap there.) Anyone here from UK that would like to go on a road trip to Edinburgh?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
-Steven

There are a few places that rent that kind of car, but not really for the kind of driving you want to do.
As far as buying one there, they are not that cheap. But rustier. That's why the Brits buy them here and ship them back home. I'd say the only cheaper ones are rubber bumper GTs.
Suck.
I wonder if I'd have a hard time finding one of the new MG 550s or something.
Maybe I'll just have to settle for a Ford Fiesta.
Steve,
There's a guy by the name of Tony Merriweather in England who runs an LBC car rental agency. I'm traveling, and am having trouble getting my memory to come up with his web site. What I can tell you is that Tony writes a montly column for the British Marque, a newpaper that gathers and publishes LBC club news. Their web site is www.britishmarque.com. I'm sure they would hook you up with Tony if you gave them a call. What I can tell you is it won't be cheap. Tony has everything from MGBs to Healys to Jags and even a Mustang, but like everything in the UK, not inexpensive. Good luck.

OK, the memory isn't pefect, but it works. It's Tony Merrygold (I was close....) and the site is http://www.theopenroad.co.uk/ You can take it from there.
Steve
Thanks!
£120/day for the MGB. And it's a beautiful Mk II.
I didn't find that price completely out of the question until I price compared with enterprise: £147.98 for the week. I was prepared to pay triple or so. :(
Guess I'll have to leave driving the British cars to my own.

Hi Steven,
I am over in the UK a couple of times each year. When I rent a car, I like to drive on the A and B roads. The Motorways would be quickest but definitely no fun in an MGB. So my suggestion is to rent an MG only if you have several days to complete the journey and can make stops along the way in the many small towns and villages.
Have a great time. Steve
Hello Steven.
Steve's right. To drive any car, let alone an old sports car, from London to Edinburgh, would be a chore. The motorways here as dull as your interstates, just different scenery!
If you are based in Scotland, there are some fantastic roads heading north from Edinburgh, up through the mountains and down the length of Loch Ness.
You could hire a classic from here:

Or maybe buy an MG TF for your trip:
