I am converting my 1967 mgb back from a later model full syncro transmission (1st gear syncro doesn't work anyway) to a 1967 three syncro overdrive. I purchased a used backing plate, flywheel, and starter, but need to replace the ring gear on the flywheel. The ring gear I purchased is camfered on one side, the one on the used flywheel I purchased is not champhered and looks like it has been replaced. I've searched the net and found several articles about replaceing the ring gear but the information is conflicting about which way to install the ring gear. The articles in "MGA with an attitude" indicate the chamfered edge toward the rear away from the shoulder, but the pictures enclosed in the same article indicate the opposite. Thus the question, which way do I install the ring gear on an old style MGB flywheel, chamfered edge toward the shoulder and thus the engine, or away from the shoulder?
Thanks

Which way the chamfer goes depends on which starter you are using. If you use the old bendix "crash" type, the chamfer goes to the rear of the car. If you use the later starter with built in solenoid, the chamfer goes to the front.
