Here's Mike Adams new Carrillo rods. If that don't give you a woody nothing will :)
These are the units with the Carr rod bolts, best damn rod bolts in the world ( I can say best rod bolt in the world, can't I Teq, since you work for the company that makes Carr rod bolts, right buddy? :) :) ) They make unit for our cars with a lesser rod bolt, maybe if Teq sees this he can chime in, he's a expert on this subject, but they only are guaranteed to have like 20+ torque cycles and replacments bolts are like 23 bucks each, I can't remember how many torques cycles the Carr bolts have, but more than any of us will ever need, and don't ever lose one, they are like $50 each should you need to buy singles.

Anyway, here you guys can drool with me, I've been drooling over these things for a week or so now. :)

Good point. Had I seen them, I might have become a living Viagra commercial - you know, "call a doctor if lasting for more than four hours."

Scott, Now why would you show ANYONE that crank????? Silly boy.

Scott, tell us more, not to say you can't break a Carrillo, but normally MGB rods just don't break, Carrillo, stock or otherwise, so what happen there, spin a bearing, and not get it shut down in time, or some other type of engine seizure, from the discoloration on that journal, there was some friction/heat going on there, and no rod will survive a sudden stop. Oh that crank looks like a Fardon Egineering billet, which is 100% fixable in the right crank shop's hands, if it just the journal chewed up and not broke/cracked anywhere.

Purdy, isn't it. The wonders of a good crank... as it turned out, lack of oiling cased the problem and the crank was fine with a very light grind. Would you belive the motor would still fire a and run with all of that going on.

What crank...? Hap this was a crank Mr Yarwood had made in England 4 years ago by an ex F1 crank grinder. What I did forget to tell you is that the rods were pretty old - close to 8 racing seasons. Lesson learned.

Hap is providing the pistons and rod innards for this mule on a cart.

This is the original set-up from 1964

Carrillo rods were not used on the original, but had twin-cam rods that are now basically unobtanium.

Original rods are amazingly strong.

I have broken a crank in half when running the early 1500/1600 crank (the 1622 was better, the 3 main 1800 best). The piston disappeared in bits out of the large new hole in the side of the block, along with the distributor and bits of the oil pump, yet the rod itself was only bent in a sinuous "S" shape, complete with wrist pin still gamely clamped by the bolted small end. It hit hard enough to lozenge one bolt hole making it very hard to remove that bolt.

Must take a picture one of these days. And of the Twin Cam valve bent in exactly the angle that the piston meets the valves, and the......

Has the picture of the broken Carillo been removed? I can't see it. Am I right in thinking that it has been shown in a previous thread? (http://www.mgexperience.net/phorum/read.php?41,475076,page=2)

If so, the crank does look like a Farndon, They are not popular in the UK anymore, they tried to turn themselves into a super company, all the best people walked out.

Arrow are now the best in the UK, both for cranks and rods.

I will be using Arrow rods in my engine, when I get round to putting it togeather.

An Arrow off the shelf MGB rod weighs 572.2 grams, anybody know what a Carillo weighs?
