Well, it is day three and here is coat number three. This coat was painted on after sanding with 400 grit and tack-clothing the dust away. So far I have used roughly 4 oz of paint on the dash.

And a good looking dash it is! Are your gauges and switches going to fit ?

As I have applied paint I have made sure to keep the openings clean.
Geez that's pretty. I've got my eye on this, and the original thread.

I think it looks fabulous. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the quality of name brand rattle can paints nowadays. I've done a number of smaller projects with rattle cans that have looked almost professionally done.
Nice but that is a $43 sheet of birch plywood you are trashing.

I'm guessing that's for cabinet backs.
Very nice. So you're brushing it on?
My roof is Rust-Oleum rattle. It's been over a year and it still looks like the day I painted it. Parked either outside or in a carport. I'm tempted to paint the rest of the car with it.
I keep a coat of Turtle Wax Ice synthetic wax on it. Maybe that's the secret.
Is the car going to be the same green color?
Good observation Shad. I build a lot of furniture in my spare time and that piece was within arm's reach. It is the remains of a 4 X 8 sheet from my last Entertainment Center project that required a 2 X 6 panel. Working at Lowe's pays off when a badly warped piece shows up. Besides, the other side is the "surfaced" side. Worse case scenario, I sand and/or paint the back-side. Perhaps I'll incorporate it into my car... speaker box, center console or maybe...
Julian, not sure if you are aware that this is not a rattle-can job. It is a "roll-on out of a gallon can" job. None the less, I agree with you and the rattle-can statement. My calipers are rattle-can caliper painted and they look great.
Hey Rob,
Yes, the car is going to be the same as the dash with YOUR Union Jack on the roof. I LOVE that roof!!! I can't wait to see it against my green.
I just noticed now that I have painted the green color I believe that I need to re-paint my calipers so it doesn't look like Christmas.
Looks great, love the color. The only problem I see is that no way I would have enough patience to paint a whole car that way.
I feel the same way Ryan which is why I said earlier that I had to learn to pace myself on this one. I LOVE instant gratification but I am not going to get that here. Fortunately, my schedule doesn't allow for much time to spend on the car so I have to do things in stages and this fits right in. I can roll a coat on the part and leave it until tomorrow or the next day. When that day comes, sand it a little and roll on another coat. It also helps the car project to fit into my budget by not being ready for a load of parts all at once. I'm diggin' it, so is the wife. Besides, I just like working with the stuff. Attached is a picture of a Grand Opening sign I made for my store's Grand Opening back in December. I'm sure those colors will outlast the employee's names on the board.

I'm thinking of painting the top half of the car the same blue as in the flag down to the trim line, White below that. But then I run into the risk of making it look like a Nash Metropolitan.
That green will look cool.
Dash.
Why didn't you just do it the wrinkle finish they came out as?
That original finish looks good to me and it only takes a couple of coats at the right temperature to get right.
Paul ;-)
I wonder how that light machine gray rustoleum has would look ?? Any idea where I could find a picture of something painted with it, or is buying a small can and spreading it around the best bet?
I watched the utube videos about the guy painting the motorcycle tank and it was pretty good but I think he left too much orange peel on the tank. Then I found the article in Hot Rod about painting the Falcon. It looked a lot better and they did say it was a lot of work to get it to look good. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/body/hrdp_0707_1962_ford_falcon_budget_paint_job/index.html I too am wondering how the Gray color in Rustoleum wood look on a GT. I still have body work to do on it and I have a hundred other projects going but I may give this a try. I like the fact that you don't have to have specialized equipment and if it takes days/weeks/months between coats it is ok. I am not looking for perfect shine, it is definitely not a show car.
Paul,
As you said, every 67 and earlier came with the wrinkled dash... EXACTLY why I did what I did. I'm not about doing what everybody else does.
