Can a HS4 carb set up bolt to a HIF intake manifold?

My 67 GT has a 1973 drive train and I'm swapping the HIF's for HS4's.
The job will be a bit easier If I don't have to remove the existing intake manifold.

I do have HS4 spacers and a heat shield.

De-smogged.

Thanks.

Shouldn't be a problem. Minor stuff, like spring mounting holes maybe, but nothing to get worked up over.

You just won't have anyplace to hook up the crankcase vent. My '73 has a set of HS4s, the PO just put a loop of heater hose on the crank vent. Maybe someday I'll just put one of those little filters on the top, like Hap and others have done.

Paul,

The HS4's I have came off a 1970 so I believe I have the crank case vent tubes.

You will need the backing plate/heat shield for the HS4s - otherwise, not a problem!

Bruno - I had forgotten when Jimmy rebuilt mine a year or so ago he swapped me for a set of later HS4s, so like you I have the connections for the crankcase vent tubes too.

I have a question. Why HS4's instead of the HIF's? Is one better than the other? Reason I ask, is I have a set of HIF's that I wanted to send off to be rebuilt, but if there is a big difference, I need to find the other.

lloyd, one is not clearly better than the other. they both have their strong and weak points. people have preferences as to which they like. if you send them off, make sure the rebuilder gets rid of those spring loaded butterfly valves but he'll probably do that anyway. you need a manifold vacuum advance distributor set-up with the hif's.

EDIT: put a front bumper on that car!
