I live in Bend, but the last few time I've been to Salem, I've seen this old gas station/mechanic's garage type of building with SEVERAL MG's out front. Anyone know who owns this? Most of them looked like they were for parts, but a few looked pretty nice. I think it was off of State street maybe?

I know there is a Moss dealer/shop at the north end of town that also does painting. I passed it years ago when on the way to the school for the deaf. From I5 southbound to the Salem Parkway, south on Cherry street. It is on the right a little after the railroad tracks. I know you would be coming from Bend and the south end of Salem so these directions won't help that much.

This place wasn't a business. Looked private owned and was pretty old looking.
I saw that place several years ago. The whole place looked abandoned. Don't remember where it was. If you find it, I'd like to know.
If you can remember approx. where it is, you can try to look for it in satellite pictures. The resolution there is high enough to recognize an MGB.

Andrew, the subject of the "mystery shop" in Salem has come up on this site before a couple of times over the last several years. I've seen it many times too, and have been very curious about it. AFAIK, nobody here has been able to come up with an answer as to who owns the shop or how to get ahold of him. I think Chris Roop made an educated guess about him once....he knew someone who knew him or who had dealt with him in some way. Someone else speculated that he lives in a house next door, and had tried to get ahold of him with no luck.
Maybe someone in the Willamette MG Club in Salem knows? I've talked to members of the club (belonged briefly, but never made it to meetings or events so quit) and have not remembered to ask about the shop. Good luck....I'm curious too!
It's on Market St. I have heard he is a mariner an is out to sea a lot.
There were two men who came to buy a 63 or 64 car from me. One was a merchant seaman and the other was his "guide" in things MG.
I was of the impression that the "guide" had the Salem property, but that could be false, either through misunderstanding or generated memory.
The merchant seaman bought the car from me, got rear ended the next day in Salem, and recieved enough money from the insurance company that he ended up with the car plus all he gave me and money left over. He used to call periodically to see if I had found him a rear section to splice onto his wreck. Haven't heard from him in several years now.
Edit: The guide was supposed to have a large number of MGBs, which always made me wonder why the seaman didn't just buy a rear clip from him.
All very interesting as I am going to Salem next week for some training relating to my job. I will be there all week, and can do some rummaging around during my off time, if you guys would like. I will be staying near Market street which could be helpful. My line of work is such that I might be able to get some info on who and what.
I will print off anything you post that you think might be of assistance in finding the place, take some photos, and see if I can get the real scoop on this. If any of you know of anyone who might be in the Willamette Club as a contact, that could be useful too.
BTW, Andrew, Rod, etc. I will be going thru Bend via 26, 126, 20, and 22 on up to Salem from here in Prairie City. If any of you are along the way, send me a PM if you'd be interested in meeting up with me as I come or go along the way. I won't have much time to visit, sorry, but I would not mind shaking your hands and seeing your cars. Oh, and you can see what's left of mine too. ;)

It should be at the NW corner of Market & Evergreen, about six blocks west of I-5.
Are you going to join us on Gary's Run?
Dick
Dick, my best answer is Maybe. I know that is very unsatisfying but we have a new grand baby coming and with other considerations right now, I simply may not be able to go, as much as I'd like to.
Bob
These are not great but they are all i could find. My daughter goes to Willamette University in Salem and I have been by that garage couple times, always looks the same. Happy hunting. Enjoy Oregon.
