MN 69 MGB

Hi guys. I'm new to this forum and have a question to ask for my father. He has a 1969 MGB that he restored to a nice "driver" condition about 20 years ago. Now he would like to finish the interior. He has a 1966 parts car and he perfers the seats from that car. He would like to recover them and put them in the 69. Will they bolt directly into the 69 or will he have to modify the brackets. The 69 is in storage so we cannot do a side by side comparison. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

I think they are the same.

Same mounting

Same mounting, but why not stay with the original seats. They're rare in that they did not put them in any other model year. I just pulled out the late model seats I had to put in recovered orginal 69 seats. Plus they're very comfortable.

I like the 69 seats, they look so retro.

Thanks for the info/input guys.

We haven't yet made up our mind as to which seats we will recover. We were thinking about the 66 seats for two reasons. First, he would like to install a tonue(sp?) cover and the headrests from the 69 seats prohibit that. Second, he really likes the red piping that is available for the 66 seats.

Brian, I didn’t know that his seats were unique to the 69’s. That fact may sway his decision. Thank you.

I think they make tonneau covers with pockets for the headrests, check VB or Moss.

You can also order the seat covers with different colored piping for the 69 seat thru Moss or VB.

Although they bolt to the floor the same, I was always under the impression that the early seats had wider bottom cushions to go along with the narrower tunnel, which would mean that they would be cramped in a 69.
The 69 seat frames have squared off corners on the bottoms in addition to that one only dual post head rest. That last just a bit of worthless trivia.

Along the same general topic, can someone tell me how to remove the headrests from my '69 seatbacks?

Also, can anyone direct me to a repair video? I'm thinking about tackling some suspension work in addition to the interior, and while I'm not a total mechanical klutz, I'd like to have something to refer to with a bit more detail than most repair manuals. Thanks for any advice!

Paul
