That's pretty cool. Seems like it still has a long way to go however.
Maybe someday they'll come up with some more self healing items such as:
Rod and main bearings
Master cylinder seals
Brake pads and linings
:D
About the only self-healing parts we have today are the drivers and a very select range of tires.
Saw a bit on self healing plastics a while back on the Discovery Channel. Seems that the manufacturer includes tiny spheres of a plasticizers in with the plastic mix. When the plastic is damaged, the plasticizers flows out to remelt the plastic together again. I think that's a wild concept
Zinc rich paint (cold galvanizing) is also said to be "self-healing"
I keep watching that commercial for IHOP where the pancakes heal themselves creating a never-ending plateful. Now that would be worth buying!
I've heard of this stuff...pretty cool.
Spray it on memory metal that returns to its original shape when heated after being crunched up and we'll have cars that will last forever :)
