I have a 2" shorter shifter on a '73 - no mod to boot required. Yours may be different?

the boot will collapse as needed.
I have the shorter modded Datsun shifter and the boot fits right to the knob (one of Gromit's delights!) looks and feels right.
Thanks guys. Mine goes to the shifter knob as well and I like the feel better than the taller shifter.

I think what someone said was they took off their vinyl boot to expose the rubber accordian boot underneath.

Is there suppose to be both boots? I just have the conical vinyl boot.
I was not the one who previously said I removed the boot to expose the rubber, but I too did that. I think it has a nice look with the chrome trim around it. Later models may need the boot to give a more finished look with the console.
I looked back at the original thread and it was Vincent P that said he modified his boot. He's the one I bought the shifter from and I will PM him to see how he did it.
Thanks for the input.
Steve
