Hi,
This is a really great website and I am amazed at how many fellow MG fanatics there are. Here is my story.
I purchased my 57 MGA roadster when I was a senior in high school 26 years ago. Thanks to my mom having a very large garage I have been able to keep her all these years. I am sure there are many of you who can relate.
My goal is to rebuild a 68 MGB 5 main bearing engine ( I got for $40) this winter. I plan on using the crane mild performance cam which doesn't have the tach drive so it makes sence to rebuild the 5 main rather than the original 1500 3 main bearing engine. I plan on going thru the transmission too just to make sure everything is nice and tight.
So I am looking for a 64 thru 67 MGB small 10 3/4" diameter flywheel which will bolt up to the 68 5 main bearing engine. I am also looking for a mgb 64 thru 67 inertia starter as part of the swap. I already have the MGA rear engine plate so once I get the flywheel and starter I can finally start the rebuild.
I can tell you there has never been a car that is so much fun to drive and has had so many great memories. Hopefully with my rebuilt mgb engine there will be many more years of fun.
Any help in finding the flywheel and starter will be much appreciated.

You can just use the MGA starter if you want.
Otherwise, I'd buy a new MGB starter, not a used one.
And you DO know that the MGA rear engine plate needs to be machined to take a rear main seal, don't you?
Thanks Bill,
I didn't know the MGA starter would work from my info from mgaguru. Good to know and yes I will probably get a new mgb starter.
And yes I have already modified the mga plate for the mgb rear seal.

Yes, the MGA starter is a bit lower torque, but works just fine unless you have a high compression motor, in which case the MGB starter isn't much better (I modify the late all synch starter for use in the early engines but you can always buy the fancy hi-torque after market starters if you have 12:1.....)
Thanks you guys for all your help.
I got the complete kit for the swap on the MGB Forum on this web site. If anyone needs the MGB clutch fork it turns out I now have an extra one I purchased on ebay. I will be building a steet engine for my daily driver so the compression will be between 9.5:1. and 9.0:1. If I could have found a 3 main engine I would have gone that route but since my 5 main cost $40 and it has a stronger crank than the 3 main it seems the way to go now that I have the conversion kit.
Thanks again,
