hey donald! i asked the same question on hear when i first got my midget! i was finding the twin set up hard and thought a single carb was the way to go! but as the suggestions and advice came in i was talked out of it, and with a little help got those twin carbs running great! i never did really find out the benefit of single except for obviously you only have one carb to set up! oh i also have a 1275 (1972). Im sure you will get more indepth advice than from me but im glad i didn't change!
oh and welcome to the forum! oh and post a pic of your car we love to see new members cars! i think if you search in the top right for the thread called 'twin carbs a pain in the ass' you'll find my old thead and lots of info!

In reality, there are no benefits to switching from the stock, twin SU set-up to a single carb. The dirty little secret is that, once the stock SUs have been restored to original specs & function (not that hard to do, at all) and set-up/adjusted "BY THE BOOK", you can pretty much forget about having to do anything to them, other than maintaining damper oil level and lubricating throttle & choke linkages. Contrary to popular myth, they don't require "frequent tuning/adjustment". Think of the word "carburetor" as a French word meaning "let them alone/hands off" and you'll be rewarded with years of trouble-free service from them.
