Okay, I've lived in the DC Metro area for going on 30 years now, and I should know the answer to this. Are there any decent pick-n-pull type salvage yards anywhere in this area? All of the places I know, like Banks in Dumfries, have a front desk where you go in and ask for your part. Sorta like Kragen for used stuff. The closest actual "Pick-N-Pull" is down in the Tidewater area, and that's a long drive for a Saturday afternoon's trolling for stuff.

Is there anything in NOVA (from Fairfax down to Charlottesville, and from Ft. Belvoir over to Winchester), or the "Metro-area" counties in Maryland (Montgomery, PG, Calvert, Frederick, Anne Arundel, Howard)?

Rick, There's one in Petersburg, and probably some in and around Richmond, Va. I know that's pretty far, but not quite Tidewater.

There use to be a couple along 29 between Gainesville and Warrenton. I have no idea if they're still there.
I'm thinking Richmond may be your best bet.

I'd bet Rufus (Harry Singleton) would know, he used to be in Charlottesville!

I've heard of this outfit in MD - Crazy Ray's... www.crazyraysautoparts.com

That's a good hit, Jim. The first true pick-your-own that I've found in this area.

I think two just switched over to pick 'n pull type places in Stafford and Massaponax. I just read about one that was called Widewater Auto (off Rt. 1 near the Aquia/Garrisonville area) that has changed to a pick n pull, and I drove by the former Banks on Rt. 1 in Massaponax and they have a new sign out as a pick n pull. I'm not sure if either would have any LBCs, but it's worth a call.

Definitely worth checking out. I'm not necessarily looking for LBCs. Sometimes you can find useful things from other cars - Saab wheels and Fiero or Miata seats for example. Plus, you can get ideas for other things like interior lighting and trim.

And it beats the heck out of what I'm doing righ now: Standing around at Kohl's waiting for my wife to get done in the dressing room. Good thing I've got my BlackBerry. :D

I go to Crazy Ray's in MD. It's a pick-n-pull style place. I've come across a few LBCs.

x2 on Crazy Ray's

They seem to turn over the inventory pretty quickly, check it out once in a while. I've seen a few MG's and a rusty 911 or 2 at the Rt 1 location.
