That sure brings back memories of my youth ---too bad the twin-cam wasnt all that reliable an engine ----thanks Simon
Yes I have seen that one before Simon...didn't know the twin cam cars had were that fast and had disc brakes on all four wheels.
The problem with the Twin Cam was the fuel that was available at the time. Owners were complaining about burned through pistons due to detonation caused by preignition. This was later rectified by reducing the engine's compression but the damage was already done in undermining an otherwise impressive engine. BMC lost a lot of money due to warranty claims. The car was really above the average for its time with 4 wheel disc brakes and peg drive knockoff wheels. RAY
Loved my B and love my A......Would love to drive a Twin Cam.

What I heard was that there was a problem with vibration that caused one of the carbs to lean out at certain RPM. That caused lean burning and pre-ignition. That would have been easily caught and fixed today, but presumably was difficult with the test equipment of the time.
In the mid 80s we had a customer who brought in a twin cam coupe. I did a tune up on it, and a few other things. He was the original owner, and told me that the only major work it had even had was when the dealer modded it to lower the compression. I was a little disappointed driving it, but I think I was expecting gobs of power or something. It was a very nice and original car, and I sometimes wonder where it is today.
The car that wouldnt start looked like an AC Bristol .
The car Shelby converted .
Were there many of the twin cam cars built? Are they worth more today?
