I was looking at the top on my B, and I love the space behind over the batteries, but with a folding top this space is gone. I was wondering if you could replace the screws that hold the header bar to the frame with a stud on each side (instead of 3 screws on each side) and wing nuts, that way the top would come right off of the frame (mine isn't glued to the bars) and the frame would fold on the sides, leaving the space open. Wondering if anyone sees a reason this wouldn't work with a later black folding frame.

Maybe I'm missing something? Wouldnt the frame still be folded behind the seats?
There are other bars across the frame other than the header rail.

The frame would fold behind the seat still, but the top itself would stow in the trunk. I will have to look again, but since my top isn't glued, I don't think it is attached anywhere to the frame other than the header rail and a couple of snaps. When the frame folds behind the seat, it alone would leave quite a bit of space still, or you could roll the top up and store it behind the seat and use the stowage strap. I was just thinking...

If the frame would just be behind the seats, it just seems like you wouldn't even accomplish your goal, plus a bare folded up frame back there would look rather unfinished...

Just get a regular packaway setup or deal with what you have. No point in trying to reinvent the wheel. Just my opinion though.

Just replaced the top on my 77 B with packaway type. Does exactly what you want and looks good too.

There is no reason why it shouldn't work. Morgan has been doing it for years.

Is Morgan a member on the forum? If so, do you have any pictures of how it looks?

Morgan is a company.

They make cars.

LOL!!! You can't write comedy like that. :) While I'm sure there are a lot of nice people in the world named Morgan, we're talking about another brand of British sports car here. Sorry I don't have a photo of the convertible mechanism.

Here's another Morgan picture. Should probably be posted in the V6/V8 Forum, but what the heck!

Lol, those cars look old enough to be my grandparents, gotta give me a little break right? Now if we were talking old tractor brands, I would have been on top of the ball, but I am still feeling my way through british car world... B-D. I may give it a try next time I get the put the top down...too darn cold right now!

Cut him some slack Steve. He doesn't know that Morgan did not give their R&D department any funds for redesigning for over 40 years....

Morgans have gone through a lot of redesign over the years. The examples above are hand-built wood framed cars with modern components, while the Aero 8 is a fully modern supercar.

Ohh great...lol. I am going to go hide in my hole and cuddle up with my ignorance lol. Well, now I am one car brand smarter! Thanks.

It was a tongue in cheek comment. Perhaps this will show what I was trying to say. :)
