Hi there,

I'm new to the forum so please don't laugh if this is an obvious question.

I spent the day today taking out the seats, carpets and all the other stuff in preparation to replace the floor pans in my 74 mgb. Underneath the glove compartment well cover there was a rats nest of wires one of which has a toggle switch. It's a attached to a black wire and for the life of me I cannot find any mention of it in the Haynes manual.

Anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advance, this is a fantastic forum and you guys have already been tremendously helpful.

Welcome aboard. I don't recall seeing anything like that under my dash but perhaps I haven't looked hard enough. I am sure that someone will chime in soon to let ya know if that is the norm or not. :)

Do you have a picture of it so we can tell if it is OEM or DPO installed? Paul

Never saw anything like that under my '74. I suspect the PO has added something.

I second the motion for pictures!

Hmm, maybe the DPO was a super spy and that toggle drops an oil screen onto the road behind, or perhaps a smoke screen? Wait those might be somewhat normal for the B's *wink*.

No toggle switches on 'Bs after '67! Must be a PO item. Have you put a multimeter to the wires to see if it's getting 12v from anywhere?

Where in Montreal? I'm guessing WI or St Lazare.

Thanks guys, I'll get a picture and post it here later.

I'm actually in Ville St. Laurent right by the Gouin river Derek, but yes we're looking to move to St. Lazare.

My 74 doesn't require a switch to dump oil on the road, maybe there was a break in the build date....

B..seein ya

Probably a switched voltage to the dist to help prevent theft, though I doubt most non MG drivers could start and drive one away anyhow.

Spot on Brian, it is tied into the anti theft system.

Which by the way is the one that I have no idea how to work ... :) but that's another story.

Starting the engine is a fair way down the restoration road, though the cylinders are all percolating with penetrating oil since this afternoon.

Thanks for the help guys,

P

Didn't even know there was a Gouin River. And the batteries in my Ouija Board must need changing.

Have you MG contacts in Montreal for parts, etc.?

Hi Derek,

No there is no river Gouin, I live by Gouin and Hwy 13, by the river. :)

I have absolutely no contacts for parts in the city other than Mario Boies catalog - any hints or tips you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Chris Hollum Imports. Down the bottom of 32nd Ave, Lachine. Turn left. You'll have to look in the book for the exact address.

Do I assume you fly out of Dorval?

Thanks very much Derek, I got the number for Hollum Imports and will be in touch with them tomorrow.

I do fly out of Dorval.

Hi, Denis. I hear you got a bit of snow down your way.

Never heard about him directly, but I have heard talk of someone in Laval. I guess this would be him.
