Always before it has been the spring eye bushes that have caused cars to dive one way or another depending on gas or letting off. After putting the new bushes in and being so pleased with myself finding an easy way to do it, it turns out that if I had checked the tightness of the u-bolts, none of that may have been necessary. Wait. The bushes were not real good, but it was tightening the pads that got rid of the dive.
The car is just about ready for eBay though.

Welcome to the "stupid me" club. In my case I heard the familiar u-joint clunk noises in my 77 Spitfire.

The temp was -10 at the time. I spent a weekend changing the joint in an semiheated garage(we ran the clothes dryer). Even bought a 5" vise to do it. My first major project. I was so proud to drive the car around the block. Gads; it still made the noise. I had failed!

The wife took the car around the block and came back and showed me the full can of diet Coke under the seat rocking back and forth. DUH

Not one of my best moments. There are more I car not to list.

Well, this ain't an MGB deal but I think you can relate. Lately I have been plagued with unusual noise coming out of my Model A Ford (1930). I thought perhaps one of the brake shoes was dragging and jacked up the car and put it in gear and still had the noise. I listened at each wheel as I spun it and could not locate the source of the noise. I thought perhaps in the transmission or rear end and crawled all around and under in an effort to locate it but could not isolate it. I was concerned that I needed major work but where?

Long story short-noise turned out to be a dry speedometer cable. The noise went throuhout the car and was hard to pinpoint but once I found it a little lube took care of it.
