My temp gauge never goes below 160 and when up to running temp it's above around 220-ish. It's like the whole range needs to be shifted down.
I've no problem getting into the gauges to work on them. I've already had the Speedo apart to clean and repair the odometer / tripometer. Also the tach to clean it as well.
I had the gauge pulled forward of the dash last weekend to replace the bezel and clean. I noted that there are 3 crews on the bottom for the water temp and 3 on top for the oil gauge. I think that once I remove all 6 screws the entire face plate and needle assm will pull forward to allow me to get at the internals.
Has anyone been any further than that? Even if I get inside does anyone think I can do anything. I don't expect to make it dead on but would like it to atleast zero out when cold (I have an extra gauge mounted back up under the dash.
I do have a B gauge that I could look at but I just didn't go digging in my spares for it.
Thanks,
Taylor

Taylor, the first thing I would do is to check the gauge by immersing the sensor in boiling water. It should fall directly on the 212 degree line. If it doesn't, then you can go ahead and try adjusting it. Others may be able to tell you the best way to reset it, one option might be to pull the needle off and reinstall it at the correct point.
It it only needs a little needle adjustment. Remove sensor bulb from engine (expect a little loss of coolant). Place bulb in a pot of plain water. Heat pot until water boils. While it's heating, turn chrome ring to remove ring and glass lens (save rubber ring seal). Very carefully pull temperature needle off of the shaft. When water boils, put needle back on the the shaft pointing at the 212dF mark on the gauge. Reassembly gauge. Reinstall sensor in engine.
