Well the new wheels are here, the first of the new VTO wheels have arrived and are for sale. I just got my personal set for my car. The first two sizes to arrive and be available for sale are 15x6 for the MGBs and Triumph TR 2/3/4/6, they come in platinum (silver), and black center with the polished rims. All I can say is wow, the new wheel is gourgous, the spokes are as smooth as a baby's behind and the machined rim now turely looks polish, it will blind you it's so shiny. The 15x6 on my shipping scal weights 13.7 pounds, thats over 4 pounds lighter than the Superlite 15x6.! Thought I would share these photos of the new wheel.

So what will the price be for those beauties?

Same as we sold the Superlites for, $180.00 each for the 15x6s.

Wow Hap......that is really light. My 15x6 Panasport racing ("for racing purposes only") weigh exactly that same amount on my shipping scale....13.7lbs.

Too bad they're bolt-on and not "real" wheels. ;)

I know, I know....and I bet "real" MGs don't have roll up windows either:I3:

That doesn't just pertain to M.G.s but rather cars in general. If you aren't damp when it's raining and hot when the sun is shining, then it isn't real motoring. :D Then again, we all know I'm not normal...

Hap,
What's VTO?"

Bruno, VTO is the brand name which is our own brand. Most of you know this, but I have buddy who races Sprites, I built him a few engines over the years and we became good friends, anyway he got in the wheel business and became the US Superlite importer, and made me a distributor, over the years I helped with marketing, product R&D, trade shows, display at car show as well as sell the wheels. The opportunity arose for us to make our own wheels, which allowed us more input into design, so now we make our own wheels, we wanted a smoother finish on the spokes, a shiney machined lip, and lighter weight, and that's what we have the other sizes and styles will phase in over the next year, and we still have some Superlite product to sell, but not in this size. The wheel shown is called the VTO Classic 8 (I came up with that name), then later will come the Retro 4, whch will be a modern remake of the Libre wheel.

Frank, yes silver is the other color option.

Steve, funny you should mention that, after the Superlite splined wheels are gone, I doubt we will make anymore spline drive wheels, this market is kinda of iffy at best, fiquire if you got 10 guys with a spoke wheel cars, 9 want new spokes, so it's not a market to get real excited about.

Alot of what you see in the new wheel has to do with you guys, we've been listening. Over the years I had alot of request for a black center wheels, and while charcoal grey sold pretty well, we listened to our customer and made a black center on the new wheels. Weight was another issue that came up, (Curtis you listneing :) ) well we right there with Pansport Ultralites at a much better price. always saw Superlite as being a nicer looking product than Minitor, but still not quite as nice as Pansport, but now IMHO, I' ll put this wheel up against any of the 8 spoke designs as for weight and cosmetic appearence, and at our same pricing, the best classic 8 spoke wheel on the market.

I hope you aren't saying that real cars have rubber bumpers! 'Cause if you are then I'll say that real cars have NO bumpers! ;)

OK, I'll go hide in my corner now before Hap's thread ends up in left field. :)

Hap....Geez I wish I hadn't of looked at this thread! They look Friggin Awesome!

I know you have a wire wheel rear axle on your GT with steel wheel hubs with longer studs in the rear and .4" spacers. Do you know if these will work with the same set up?

Hap, with the new wheel, are the Superlites going to disappear from availability and are you going to eventually do a 14" rim for the B's or a 13" rim for the Midgets? And they do look sharp I have to admit!

Dammit Hap. I just bought those Superlites from you and now I have to sell them to get a set of the newer, lighter bling. Great work!!! I like the peak on the spokes of your new wheels better than the "flatter" style spoke of the Panasports.

Jeff....flatter style?

I'm confused. Does the 15x6 fit on an MGB? The opening topic says so, but people are anxiously waiting for a 14" so they can put it on their "B".

Yes, all the offsets stayed the same on the 15x6.

The 15x6s for the MGA/MGBs, and big Triumphs were the #1 and 2 sellers, so they were the first tow wheels to be made. The next two wheels currently being made are a 14x5.5 for MGBs and 13x5.5s for the Midgets and Spitfires. When it said and done, we'll probably have about 10 different wheels as for size, offset and such.

I can't tell you the future of Superlite, they are still a active company, we're just moving into a transition to sell our own wheels now. We still have a good bit of Superlite stock on the shelves.

Yes, we currently have the 15x6 into two offsets (MGA/MGB and big Triumphs) and two center color choices, silver, and black, both with polished rims. The 14x5.5 will come out towards spring. 15x6 sells probably sell 4-5 to 1 for MGBs over the 14" wheels for MGB (almost everyone choose to go with 15" on the MGB), so the 15x6 was the best seller and the wheel we wanted to make first, and MGB being the biggest of all LBC market, was the first priority. The new 14" wheel will be a 5.5' wide wheel, rather than a 6" wide wheel, because the 14x6, often times required "alloy outer tie rods" or a very simple mod to the outer tie rod to get clearence, the 14x5.5 will eliminate that.

Jay, if I learned anything when working on the Superlite spline drive wheels was never announce when a new product will be ready to sell, until you have it and are ready for sell, otherwise you do alot of backstepping with folks until the product is ready. The Retro 4 is definately something now that is slated to be made, and I been told projection of when, I'll believe that when the product is and here and ready. I really exicted about the Retro 4, because with the Classic 8 you have other manufactuers making a simular design, so there's alway comparisions being made, but with the Retro 4, it will be a unique product to us.

Lloyd, it appears in the photos that the Panasports have a more rounded peak on the "arms." Hap's new wheels look to have a sharp peak, sharper as the reach the rim. I guess flatter was the wrong way to describe that. The new wheels look more like the typical trendy new stuff while the Panasports look more traditional. Then again, maybe its just the lighting and wheel color that make it look that way???

Dec 02, 2009 07:20:17
balloonfoot

Jeff......I went out to the garage again and looked at my wheels. I think you are right...the Panasports have a more generous radius to the spokes and where they meet the rim. Just a small difference....and probably not as noticeable on a silver wheel.....Hap's wheels are a great deal for the money. All other aftermarket wheels were never as nice looking as the Panasports.......I think Hap has now given the people that great looking wheel at an 'MG' price.

Bealey

Hi Hap, You have a great looking wheel! I'm so glad we procrastinated so long because now we will wait for the perfect wheel for Bealey! Can hardly wait for you to offer the 14" 5.5 black with polished rim. Hope you can make the estimated Spring production.
Also, Joe would like to know what size tire folks are using on the 15" wheels on the B.

It depends on which size wheel you're talking about, while most are simular, they vary form mold (size/offset) on a given wheel, for example I have two local buddies that have Panasport 16x7s on their TR6s they have sharper peaks on them, I guess it what folks like, we wanted this way, we designed the wheel form the gorund up, it not anyone elses. The other size in Pansport, Superlite or VTO say form a 15 to a 14 or even to the 13, will look slightly different in spoke design due to the lenbght of the spoke, for exmaple if you look at 15 and 14 Superlite, they look pretty different.

185/65/15 is hat we recommend, but you know us gearheads folks will go as wide as they can get by with, other popular sizes are 195/60/15 and 195/65/15, without fender mods or a higher sitting car I don't recommend anyhting wider than 195s.

I'm waiting for the 14's because I can't justify replacing five brand new tires that I just purchased a few months ago for my Rostyles. I can wait until spring!! Thanks Hap!

Hap,

I don''t see these on your website. If you're running a speakeasy for the VTO Brand, can I have the codeword?
