Darn it. The plan was to bolt together my spare engine, new clutch, and OD transmission then pull the lump in Gee Tee and drop in the new assembly.
However,
I just researched the archives and realized that my spare 78 engine is not going to fit into 70 Gee Tee without changing the front plate OR making adapters.
I don't have a spare front plate for the older style set-up, and really don't want to disturb the meticulous work I did a year ago to make sure the front gaskets all were sealed up nicely, SO.....
Anyone ever made such adapters to fit an 18V into an 18G car?

The reason for the switch? Hmm.... I am now pondering that too.
1/ The current engine is burning oil, about 1 qt per 200miles. Last time I had this condition [on my 75] I eventually burned a valve because I did the head and not the rings. So the engine likely needs a refresh. Because it is my daily driver I don't want it out of commission.
2/ I have a spare engine from a 78 that I rebuilt, ready to go, sitting for a year doing nothing.
3/ I have an OD tranny to go into the GT and figured a lump for lump transfer would be faster and simpler.
4/ My wife is going away for a week later this month and I have her car to drive in the meantime if the transfer glitches.
and
I am bored!
Surely someone in your area has a front plate you could install.
Peter,
I know that I am not the cheapest shipping route, but do have all parts here to get you fixed up.
Tis a Robert Burns poesy oft misquoted:
"The best schemed lays o’ mice an’ men / Gang aft a-gley.”
Thanks for the offer Jimmy however I am sure I could find another front plate if I decide to go that route... and I may yet. There are enough rusting blocks lying around Toronto that I could salvage one from.
And I ave a left-over rear plate from the 18V when I did the Rivergate swap if anyone needs that.
OK, now wait a minute .....
You do have all the correct parts on the outcomming engine. That is really simple.
Put mount on eng. drill one hole for mount that will be to hold mount. I have done this. works ok
