I have found exactly what I have been looking for, a 1974 Midget in red with a black interior. I was not planning on buying until spring but as luck would have it one has appeared.

The history is that it is a Flordia car with zero rust from a TV prodcuers classic car collection. It has had one repaint, no metal work, origional engine and interior, new top. It is more than I was looking to spend but I see the value in spending more on a rust free body with good paint that will not have big repair bills or hurt the value in the future.

So with that said please look at the pictures and tell me what you think about the car and what a reasonable price is.

Pictures are here: PICTURES

We have talked about a price of $5,500

As alaways thanks and your advice and comments are greatly appreciated!!

I would jump on that baby, it looks clean and well taken care of. If you could get him to drop alittle that would sweeten the pot but I think it would be a good deal and a great place to start.

Except for the silly Weber carb this one looks much, much, much better than the first two you showed us. Personally I don't care for Weber downdraft carbs. Check everything for proper operation, all switches, condition of the top, etc. It's missing the fresh air tube to the heater - no big deal and easily replaced. If you find a couple little minor problems maybe you can get them to come down a little. Otherwise go for it. :)

I recently picked up a 74 midget for 3500. It looks like your paint job and hard top are in great shape compared to what I got. As it is mentioned in every forum it is hard to say how much these cars are worth. So far I have had so much fun driving the little guy I can't imagine ever thinking it was a bad deal. I agree that the weber carb is silly and I can't wait to get the original SU back into it and I am also missing the clean air tube but I have used the heater and am not in a rush to replace it. Another nice thing about that -74 is that it is the first go around with the round fenders and chrome bumper. I personally like that look so much better.

Cheers and good luck

How is the underbody and overall rust situation of your car? I think this car carries a premium becaues it is truly rust free.

The car is 300 miles south of me, I would go take a look and either tow or drive it back. I may see if any forum members live down there and would come take a look with me.

Jared, this is a nice looking car. i ran upon it today when i was shopping parts for my sprite and looked at the pics. i'll be curious what the reserve is. i wouldn't plop the money down yet but get rather agressive in the bidding to see how bad others want it! best of luck!

Reserve was set at 6.5k, we went back and forth and setteled at 5.5k as a fair price. I will go down and see it within the week and if its as clean as it appears.

She's a beauty and does look very clean. Please take time to look close at the innards and make sure the drivetrain is in good order. Read up on gearbox stuff and detecting issues. Others will chime in withhelp. jeff

I have been looking at the pictures of the car and this one I have a question about. I called the owner and he said its not a rust hold, its a precise cut and its on both sides. Should it be like this, and what is it for?

Thanks!

Firstly, looks like a good buy on your part! Congratulations.

Secondly, if you are talking about the 'curve' on the front, I belive it is normal, if you look at this photo of body with bumper off.

Thanks for the replay but I was talking about the inner wheel well, I added an arrow pointing at the area in question.

OK, here is a photo of inside the wheel arch. This is painted over, but it does look like there is an area that corresponds to that on your new car.

hey gared! i think thats just part of the bodywork! the gap between the sill and the wing if it was sealed up you wouldn't get the wing off without cutting. you can see here without the wing on where it sits and makes a channel! i think!

Ah great, I knew there and to be a reason for it. Thanks for the very quick response!

That's totally normal. What you are seeing is the edge (seam) of the inner rocker where it's attached to the inner fender.

That is an unmolested example of the breed. What a lot of us forget is that the factory fit and finish was not what we condier spectacular by todays standards.

I don't see where you can go wrong with that car at that price. Take care of it and you will be able to recoup all of your money when you sell it someday (if you ever do). Try that with a new car!
